People look for MyFitnessPal alternatives when barcode scanning sits behind a paywall, ads interrupt the diary, or user-added foods look wrong. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test.

Who these MyFitnessPal alternatives are for

Download MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter on the App Store

This page is for people who already know MyFitnessPal and want a different daily log. It is not a generic “best apps” list. For that wider field, see our best calorie tracking apps hub.

Stay if you like a huge restaurant list and a social forum. Leave, or add a second app, if you want staff-checked foods, UK brand photos, or targets that move with your weight trend.

We compared public store pages, manufacturer prices, privacy labels, and published studies. We did not log meals in a lab. Our MyFitnessPal review covers the incumbent in more depth.

How we compared MyFitnessPal alternatives

Each row uses one job, one platform set, and dated public prices. Apple and Google ratings stay in separate cells. They are not a blended score.

UK and US prices also stay apart. If a storefront showed several in-app SKUs, we list the range and say to check the live checkout. We omit install counts we could not verify on the day of capture.

People who want a long-running free calorie diary Keeps a simple US-style log without MyFitnessPal’s current Premium menu Barcode scan is Premium. User-added foods can miss sodium and cholesterol, per Griffiths.

Cronometer if you want verified micros

Cronometer sells detail, not a restaurant social graph. The free diary tracks calories plus a long micronutrient list. The US App Store page on 13 September 2026 said you can track 95+ vitamins and minerals and search more than 1.1 million verified foods.

Barcode scanning is free on the pages we opened. Gold adds photo and voice logging, a recipe URL importer, a fasting timer, and an ad-free diary. Official Gold prices were $10.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

US Play on 13 September 2026 was 4.6 from 58,200 reviews and still showed ads on the free tier. Several recent reviews said ads interrupt logging.

Nutracheck if you eat UK supermarket food

Nutracheck is a UK calorie counter from NutraTech Ltd. The GB App Store listing on 13 September 2026 advertised a UK food database with photos, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl, M&S, Waitrose, and named high-street chains.

New users get a 7-day trial, then a paid month or year, or a free Lite diary with daily limits. The manufacturer price page we opened the same day showed $6.99 a month and $29.99 a year. That capture used a US-routed request.

The GB App Store rating was 4.8 from 264,000 ratings. Age rating was 18+. We found no peer-reviewed nutrient trial that names today’s Nutracheck build.

MacroFactor if you want adaptive targets

MacroFactor is a premium macro coach from Stronger By Science Technologies LLC. You log food and weight. The app updates calorie and macro targets.

Official US prices on 13 September 2026 were $11.99 a month, $47.99 for six months, or $71.99 a year. A year on monthly billing is $143.88. UK App Store IAPs the same day included £10.99, £41.99, and £62.99. There is a 7-day trial and no free tier.

US App Store: 4.8 from 22,000 ratings. US Play: 4.7 from 16,700 reviews, updated 2 September 2026. Play Data Safety said the developer does not share data with third parties. That is a form, not an audit.

Lose It! if you want a long-running free diary

Lose It! still lets you set a calorie budget and log meals without paying. FitNow’s help article updated 29 July 2026 put Premium at $79.99 a year and Lifetime at $299.99. The US App Store on 13 September 2026 also listed $39.99 and other Premium SKUs.

Premium unlocks barcode scanning, Snap It photo logging, voice logging, and extra nutrient goals. The Apple privacy label said contact info, identifiers, and usage data may be used to track you across other companies’ apps.

US App Store: 4.8 from 759,000 ratings. US Play: 4.6 from 183,000 reviews, updated 8 September 2026. Griffiths and colleagues (2018) found Lose It! mean protein, fat, sodium, sugars, cholesterol, and saturated fat were lower than NDSR when a dietetics-trained researcher entered 30 recalls. Energy was not significantly different. That is a database and matching study, not a 2026 consumer test.

What you keep if you skip MyFitnessPal alternatives

Many people do not need an alternative. The free app still stores a food diary and connects to other devices. The US App Store listing on 13 September 2026 described a 20.5 million+ food list, Apple Watch support, and a new AI coach. Premium adds barcode scan, meal scan, voice logging, custom macros, and an ad-free diary. Premium+ adds a meal planner in named countries.

US App Store: 4.7 from 2.4 million ratings, age 16+. US Play: 4.4 from 2.91 million reviews, updated 4 September 2026. Play Data Safety said the app may share location, personal info, and device IDs with third parties, encrypts data in transit, and offers deletion.

If your complaint is price, do the 12-month maths. $79.99 a year is far less than $19.99 times 12 ($239.88). If your complaint is user-added junk, these MyFitnessPal alternatives with curated lists may help.

Privacy when you switch MyFitnessPal alternatives

Leaving MyFitnessPal does not delete the old file. Export first if you want history. Then delete the account in the vendor flow, not only the home-screen icon.

New MyFitnessPal alternatives still want health and identity data. Lose It!’s Apple label mentioned tracking. Cronometer and MyFitnessPal Play pages said some data may be shared with third parties. MacroFactor’s Play form said no third-party sharing. Read the live label in your store. It can change without a news post.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest of these MyFitnessPal alternatives?
Cronometer’s free tier still logs food and scans barcodes on the pages we opened. Lose It! also keeps a free diary. MacroFactor has no free tier. Nutracheck Lite is capped. Annual SKUs cost less over 12 months than monthly billing.
Is there a good MyFitnessPal alternative with no subscription at all?
Yes for a basic log: free Cronometer or free Lose It!. No subscription means you accept ads, fewer logging shortcuts, or a thinner report set.
Which alternative is best for UK supermarket barcodes?
Nutracheck is the UK-focused catalogue in this shortlist. Cronometer and MacroFactor can still scan packs, but they are not built around British shop photos.
Will my calories match if I switch apps?
Not exactly. Databases differ, and so do default portions. Griffiths et al. (2018) showed several popular apps ran low versus a research database even when a trained person entered the same recall.
Should I export MyFitnessPal before I try an alternative?
Yes if you want the old diary. Use the vendor export tools, then keep a local copy. Uninstalling the app is not the same as deleting the account.
