This Lifesum review looks at a Swedish tracker that sells meal plans and a weekly Life Score. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. The download is free with limits. Premium is the paid layer. Ratings and privacy labels below are dated 13 September 2026 unless noted.
Who this Lifesum review is for

Download Lifesum: AI Calorie Counter on the App Store · Get Lifesum: AI Calorie Counter on Google Play
Use Lifesum if you want a plan and a recipe list more than a raw nutrient grid. The listings lean on Life Score, grocery lists, and lifestyle labels such as keto, paleo, or high protein. That is a guided product.
Skip it if you want the deepest free micronutrient diary. That is Cronometer. Skip it if you want a coach that moves calories from your weight trend and refuses a free tier. That is MacroFactor.
Skip it if Premium ads on the free build will exhaust you. Play reviews in our capture named full-screen upgrade prompts. Skip it if you need a UK barcode specialist. See Nutracheck. A Lifesum review that hid those limits would read like an ad.
Meal plans, Life Score, and logging
Apple and Play, captured 13 September 2026, described four log paths: photo, voice, typed text, and barcode. They also named a “quick tracking” shortcut. The same copy claimed 65 million users. That is a manufacturer total. We did not audit it.
Life Score is the extra brand. The listings said a weekly score uses nutrition, hydration, and activity. Apple’s Editors’ Choice blurb called it a “friendly, supportive guide that keeps the science tucked away.” That is Apple’s sentence, not a methods paper. A score can hide the maths you need to question. This Lifesum review treats Life Score as a product label, not a lab index.
Premium is how you reach “the full Lifesum experience.” Both stores listed 1-month, 3-month, and annual auto-renewing plans. Help on 7 February 2025 said renewals run through App Store, Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store, the Lifesum site, or Paddle.net, and that Lifesum cannot cancel a store bill for you.
Apple listed version 23.14.0 five days before our 13 September 2026 capture. Play US said it was updated on 2 September 2026. A late-2025 version note called the rebuild “our biggest update in 5 years” and added Polish, Finnish, and Czech.
Dated price, platforms, and store scores
Lifesum does not print one public USD list price on the help page we opened. It prints many store SKUs. Apple US, captured 13 September 2026, showed Lifesum Premium 1 year at $119.99 and $99.99, 6 months at $69.99, 3 months at $39.99 and $29.99, and other Premium lines at $44.99, $29.99, and $21.99. That range is why reviews disagree. The offer on your phone is the only honest figure.
We could not load the UK App Store page in this session. Do not treat the US dollar table as a sterling price. Check the GB listing before you budget. Samsung and web checkouts can differ again.
| Field | Public record |
|---|---|
| Current product | Lifesum: AI Calorie Tracker (Lifesum AB, Stockholm) |
| Version / last update | Apple US 23.14.0 (about 8 September 2026). Play US updated 2 September 2026. |
| Platforms | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iMessage, Android, Wear OS. Samsung Galaxy Store is named on help. |
| UK price | Not captured in this session. Check the live UK App Store or Play checkout. Do not convert US SKUs by hand. |
| US price | Apple US Premium SKUs include $99.99 and $119.99 per year, $69.99 / 6 months, $29.99 / $39.99 / 3 months, plus other Premium lines. |
| 12-month paid cost | $99.99 or $119.99 if you land on those annual SKUs. Monthly or quarterly paths can cost more if you stay a year. |
| Free / trial / subscription | Free download with limited features. Premium auto-renews. Help does not advertise a universal free trial. |
| Apple US rating | 4.6 / 5 from 151K ratings (13 September 2026). Editors’ Choice badge on the listing. |
| Google Play US | 4.4 / 5 from 378K reviews (header; module showed 370K). Install band not shown in our capture. |
| Age / content rating | Apple 13+ with infrequent medical-treatment information and health topics. Play: Everyone. |
| Privacy / Data Safety | Play: may share personal info, financial info, and four other types; may collect the same families; encrypted in transit; deletion available. Apple: identifiers used to track you; email listed for the developer’s advertising. |
| Sentiment sample | Play 2025 notes cited wrong barcode data and aggressive Premium ads. An April 2025 Apple review said Premium logging failed after the rebuild. An August 2026 Play note asked for a fibre target on the macro ring. |
| Core features | Calorie and macro diary, Life Score, water and produce trackers, recipes, meal plans, body measures, health-app sync; Premium unlocks the “full” plan set. |
| Validation | No peer-reviewed trial of Life Score found. NHS diary advice is generic. |
| Regulatory status | Consumer wellness app. Not presented as a medical device in the sources we checked. |
Lifesum Premium, if you pay
Pay if the free build blocks the plan and recipe library you installed the app for. The store sentence is frank: free is limited; Premium is the full experience. At $99.99–$119.99 a year on the US annual SKUs, Lifesum sits above Cronometer Gold’s $59.99 webpage year and in the same band as some MyFitnessPal premiums. You are paying for plans and polish, not for a published nutrient-lab. That is the commercial heart of this Lifesum review.
A 3-month SKU at $29.99 is a shorter test than a year. Help says gift cards and 100% discount campaigns do not auto-renew. Everything else does unless you cancel on the original platform.
If you already pay MacroFactor or Cronometer, Lifesum is a second style, not a required stack. One diary is enough for most weeks.
Privacy in plain language
Play’s Data safety label, captured 13 September 2026, said Lifesum may share personal info, financial info, and four other types. It may collect those same families. Transit is encrypted. You can request deletion. Apple said identifiers may be used to track you across other companies’ apps and sites, and listed email under the developer’s advertising.
The policy URL on Play is lifesum.com/privacy-policy.html. Apple still pointed at api.lifesum.com/mobile-terms. Open both if you connect Apple Health, Samsung Health, or Health Connect. Weight, waist, and “body fat” fields are intimate even when the score looks friendly.
Wear OS can run without the phone app, per Play. That is convenient. It is also another place health data can sit. Privacy still belongs in a Lifesum review.
What independent coverage actually said
Apple’s Editors’ Choice note is the most visible third-party line on the US listing. It said Lifesum can help with weight loss, muscle gain, or a more balanced diet, and that it wraps meal plans, exercise tracking, and water reminders. It did not publish a test protocol or a date.
User reviews in our capture are the other record. An April 2025 Apple review from a long-time user said Premium logging broke after the rebuild and that AI was pushed in place of scan-and-add. That note belongs in a Lifesum review even if Apple still shows Editors’ Choice. Play notes in 2025 said barcode numbers were wrong and that Premium ads went full screen several times a day. Lifesum’s Play reply to an August 2026 fibre request said the idea would go to the team. That is a support ticket, not a roadmap.
NHS Better Health still starts with a written day and a balanced plate, not a branded score. If you want grams, use our protein intake guide. If you want the category map, use the best calorie tracking apps hub.
What remains unverified
We did not follow a Lifesum meal plan. We did not score Life Score against a dietitian’s chart. Those limits close the Lifesum review. “65 million users” and “thousands of recipes” stay manufacturer copy. UK sterling prices were not captured here. Photo and voice error rates are unpublished in the sources we opened.
No blended Vitality Ledger score. A pretty plan that you cannot log is just a PDF with a paywall.
