Noom vs WeightWatchers: Which Digital Weight-Management Program Is Better?
Updated
This Noom vs WeightWatchers page sets the two programmes side by side using public prices, store listings and published trials. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test.

The decision set is these two products only. A third app would dilute the query. For a wider list, use our best weight loss apps hub after you finish this page.

Decision rule in one paragraph
Pick Noom if you will read a short daily lesson and you want a calorie-and-colour log more than a Points budget. Pick WeightWatchers if you want a single Points number, a large recipe list, and a real workshop or a cheaper 12-month Core rate. Pick neither medication add-on unless a clinician has already discussed GLP-1 drugs with you. For product-level detail, read our Noom review and our WeightWatchers review.
How each programme works
Noom’s US App Store listing, captured 13 September 2026, describes psychology lessons, AI food logging, step tracking, optional coaching, Circles communities, and Noom Move classes. Colour categories sit on top of calories. The same listing also sells Noom Med and at-home labs. Those are extra programmes, not the core Weight plan.
WeightWatchers’ US listing the same day describes a Points budget, ZeroPoint foods, a barcode scanner, macros, photo logging, a social network, device sync, and optional workshops. Newer copy adds an AI body scanner, a Weight Health Score, menopause tools, and a GLP-1 Success path. Med+ is a clinic add-on. Medication cost is not in the membership fee on the US plans page.
Both ask you to log food. Both can feel like homework. If daily logging harms your mood, neither app is a safe default. See how often to weigh yourself for a calmer scale habit.
Price and 12-month cost
Do not blend website and App Store prices. They are different tills.
Noom’s help article on Weight plan pricing lists $70 for one month and $209 for 12 months, plus other prepaid lengths ($129 for two months, $169 for four, $179 for six). Those figures are USD, before tax, and auto-renew. The 12-month path is $209 if you stay. Twelve months at $70 would be $840. The US App Store also lists other Noom Program SKUs from $44.99 to $199.99. We did not map each SKU to a term. Check the paywall.
We did not find a matching official Noom pound table on the pages we opened. If you pay in sterling, read the live UK checkout. Do not convert $209 in your head and call it a UK price.
WeightWatchers’ US plans page on 13 September 2026 listed Core from $12 a month and Core+ from $22 a month on a 12-month commitment that auto-renews. Med+ was $25 for the first month, then $74 a month on a 12-month term ($84 on a 6-month term). GLP-1 drug cost is extra. The US App Store listed several monthly IAPs from $19.99 to $24.99 and a six-month digital SKU at $108.99. Twelve App Store months at $23.99 would be $287.88. That is why the website Core rate and the store month are not interchangeable.
WeightWatchers UK plans the same day listed Core from £5 a month and Core+ from £7 a month on a 12-month commitment. Other UK offer pages showed higher “from” figures. Treat £5 as the dated headline on the main plans URL, not a promise that every account gets it.
Neither brand is a meal-replacement box. If you are comparing shakes, see meal-replacement evidence instead of this pair.
Store ratings stay in separate cells
On 13 September 2026 Noom’s US App Store showed 4.7 stars from 866,000 ratings (18+). Google Play showed 4.1 stars from about 314,000 reviews, with 304,000 also shown on the same page (Everyone). Play reviews we opened cited food-data errors, Android feature gaps and cost.
WeightWatchers’ US App Store showed 4.8 stars from 2.4 million ratings (18+). Google Play showed 4.3 stars from about 604,000 reviews, with 578,000 also shown (Everyone). Play reviews from February to April 2026 said the app felt glitchy after a January update and too focused on GLP-1 extras.
Stars are not a clinical score. They are store sentiment on a capture date.
Privacy and data labels
Noom’s Apple label, captured 13 September 2026, says data used to track you may include purchases, financial info, location, user content, identifiers and sensitive info. Play Data Safety said the app may share location, personal info and seven other types, encrypts data in transit, and offers deletion.
WeightWatchers’ Apple label the same day said contact info, identifiers and usage data may be used to track you. Play Data Safety said no data is shared with third parties, personal and financial info may be collected, data is encrypted in transit, and deletion is offered.
Both labels are developer-provided. Both programmes can include social posts. Turn those off if you want a private log.
What published studies actually measured
Toro-Ramos and colleagues (JMIR mHealth 2020) randomised 202 adults with prediabetes to a coach-guided mobile DPP on Noom or to usual care plus a paper curriculum. In intention-to-treat analysis the Noom arm lost 2.64 kg more at six months and 1.80 kg more at 12 months. HbA1c did not differ between groups over time. Completers lost more. People who never started the app looked like the control arm. That is a prediabetes DPP study, not a test of every 2026 Noom SKU.
An earlier Noom DPP pilot (BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care 2016) was not randomised. Treat it as a signal, not a verdict.
WeightWatchers has a longer trial trail. Lighten Up (BMJ 2011) found that a 12-week Weight Watchers course had a clearer one-year loss than a leisure-centre comparator. NICE evidence statements later pooled Weight Watchers trials and judged that evidence stronger than the single Slimming World trial in the same pack.
WeightWatchers’ 2026 US plans page cites Palacios and colleagues (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2025): a six-month RCT (n=376) of digital WW versus standard nutrition guidance, funded by WW. The page says WW members raised a Healthy Eating Index score by 5.31 points versus 1.13, and that trial participants lost an average of 12 lb (5.4%) at six months. That is a funded diet-quality study. It is not a Noom head-to-head.
Neither app replaces a clinician. Waist and BMI still need context. See BMI and waist circumference.
What remains unverified
We did not complete either signup quiz. We cannot confirm which Noom prepaid length a new account is steered toward. We cannot confirm which WW Core promotional rate a UK or US household sees. We found no current randomised trial that puts 2026 Noom Weight and 2026 WW Core in the same protocol. If a cell is blank, the public page did not show the figure.
