The best hydration apps and nutrition products do different jobs. Some log glasses. Others sell a 400 kcal shake. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Figures below come from public store listings, manufacturer pages, privacy labels, and named health pages captured on 13 September 2026.
This page is for adults who want a reminder to drink, or a labelled powder to stand in for a meal or a greens scoop. It is not a medical device review. An app cannot read your blood sodium. A powder is food or a supplement, not a cure.
Who this best hydration apps and nutrition products shortlist is for
Use this page if you forget to drink during desk days, or if you want a labelled shake for rushed meals. Skip a trophy ranking. Public listings do not prove one product is “best overall.”
People who want a wrist log and a watch complication often look at WaterMinder. People who want a cute Apple-only tracker often look at Waterllama. People who like a game more than a chart often look at Plant Nanny.
People who want 40 g of plant protein in a 90 g scoop often look at Huel Black Edition. People who want a greens powder, not a meal, sit on the Huel Daily Greens and AG1 rows.
This shortlist will not replace a clinician. It will not promise weight loss or clearer skin. Pair any log with ordinary meals. Our everyday hydration guide and everyday protein guide sit beside the apps.
How we compared public listings
We read manufacturer pages, Apple App Store and Google Play listings, privacy policies, Apple privacy labels, and Google Data Safety sections. We also read NHS fluid pages and CDC water pages.
We did not install the apps. We did not weigh scoops. We did not invent a blended score. Missing numbers are omitted. Ratings move. Treat the table as a 13 September 2026 snapshot.

WaterMinder: the cross-platform log

1 of 5
WaterMinder is the older tracker in this set. Funn Media lists an Oak Lawn, Illinois address on Play. The US App Store page on 13 September 2026 showed version 8.0.1 and a 7-day trial. Play showed 5.10.7, updated 2 September 2026.
The free tier logs drinks. Premium unlocks history and custom reminders on Play. Yearly SKUs range widely. Twelve months at $2.99 is $35.88. A $19.99 year is cheaper if you stay. See the WaterMinder review for the privacy label.
Waterllama: the Apple-only character

1 of 5
Waterllama is built by Llama Luna Apps Inc. The UK listing names a 2022 App Store Award and a 2022 Apple Design Award finalist badge. It needs iOS 17. There is no Android page.
The free app logs water. Premium adds characters, challenges, and history edits. US SKUs included monthly Full Access at $0.99 and $3.99. The store does not map each name to a term. US ratings were 4.9 from 160,000. See the Waterllama review for HealthKit notes.
Plant Nanny: the garden game

1 of 5
Download Plant Nanny Cute Water Tracker on the App Store · Get Plant Nanny Cute Water Tracker on Google Play
Plant Nanny is SPARKFUL’s water game. You log a glass and a digital plant perks up. Version 6.25.13 was dated 20 August 2026 on both US stores.
The free garden works. SPARKFUL unlocks plants. A US year at $69.99 beats $7.99 × 12 = $95.88. US App Store ratings were 4.7 from 106,000. The “2.4×” claim is unverified. See the Plant Nanny review.
Huel Black Edition: the high-protein meal
Huel Black Edition is a vegan powder sold as a complete meal. The UK Matcha Latte table lists 400 kcal, 40 g protein, and 8.4 g fibre per 90 g. Allergy advice: may contain mustard.
UK copy showed £30.50 a bag and from £1.79 a meal, with 10% Subscribe & Save. US copy showed $45 a bag and from $2.65 a meal. A one-meal-a-day estimate is about two bags a month: about £659 a year on UK subscribe, or $1,080 at two $45 US bags. Those are estimates. See the Huel Black Edition review and our food-label guide.
Greens powders are not meals
Huel Daily Greens is an 8.5 g scoop. The UK formula page lists 23 kcal. UK and US pages showed £45 / $45 a bag and £1.50 / $1.50 a serving. That is not 400 kcal of food.
AG1 Next Gen listed $99 once plus $9 shipping, or $79 a month, or £79 in the UK. Twelve months at $79 is $948. Twelve months of Daily Greens at $45 a bag is $540 if that price holds. Manufacturer “clinically backed” lines are not independent clinic trials.
Free versus paid, and when to skip
A notes app and a kitchen jug cost nothing. The best hydration apps and nutrition products earn a fee only if the reminder or the label solves a real job.
Skip WaterMinder if Play’s “data isn’t encrypted” line is a deal-breaker. Skip Waterllama if you need Android. Skip Plant Nanny if ads and a plant paywall will annoy you. Skip Huel Black Edition if you need a chewable meal or you react to pea protein. Skip greens powders if you already eat fruit and vegetables and do not want a scoop.
Two products can stack. Add both yearly bills first. An app plus a powder is two privacy policies and two checkouts.
What listings cannot prove
NHS pages still say drink enough that urine is a clear pale yellow. Eatwell frames 6–8 cups as a guide. Tea and coffee count. CDC pages say needs vary. The US National Academies adequate intake for total water (food plus drink) is 3.7 L a day for young men and 2.7 L for young women. That is not “drink 3.7 L of tap water.”
No app here is a medical device in the listings we read. Goals are estimates from weight. We found no peer-reviewed trial that names these three apps as validated instruments.
