Finch vs Fabulous: Which Habit and Self-Care App Is Better?

Pick Finch if you want a free habit list, a mood check and a pet, and you will only pay for cosmetics. Pick Fabulous if you want a coached morning stack and you will watch the trial end date. How Finch is built

A help article on Plus benefits says core goals, reflections, friends and seasonal events stay free. Plus adds shop discounts, extra reflection prompts, full soundscape and timer libraries, and extra seasonal rewards. Official Plus pricing named $69.99 a year or $9.99 a month. Help FAQs describe a 3-day Plus look that ends without a subscription, and a 7-day trial that becomes a paid plan unless you cancel in Apple or Google Play.

How Fabulous is built

US App Store copy the same day calls Fabulous a habit tracker that became a coaching and mental-health platform. Named tools include a morning routine, to-do list, journal, short workouts, affirmations, meditation, a gratitude log and Premium journeys on anxiety, self-love, productivity or depression. Subscription terms on the help site say plans can be weekly, monthly, every two or three months, six-monthly or yearly. Website billing can run through Chargebee. Store billing runs through Apple or Google. Introductory prices can jump at renewal. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends if you used Apple, as the store page states.

Public Play comments in 2025 often mention extra companion apps and trial charges. Those are comments, not our test. Still, treat the first week as a billing drill: screenshot the plan, set a cancel reminder, and cancel in the store.

Price, ownership cost and what stays free

Finch’s official US year is $69.99. Times two or three, if the list holds, is $139.98 or $209.97. Monthly $9.99 times 12 is $119.88, which is the worse 12-month path if both stay available. UK Apple shows pound SKUs including £9.99 and £69.99. We will not call those monthly and yearly without the live label.

Fabulous does not publish one calm price card. The named US Annual SKU was $49.99 on 13 September 2026. Other Premium SKUs sit at $39.99 and $59.99. A quarterly SKU sits at $39.99, which is $159.96 if you paid that four times in a year — only if that SKU is the one you start. Check the term, not the marketing tile.

Movement still matters more than a streak. UK and US activity pages are in UK–US physical activity guidelines. Mood and training sit in exercise for mental wellbeing. An app reminder can cue a walk. It cannot do the walk.

Ratings and public sentiment, kept apart

Finch’s Apple and Play scores both sat at 4.9 on 13 September 2026, with hundreds of thousands of ratings. Fabulous sat at 4.4 on US Apple and 3.9 on US Play. That Play gap is large. It is a dated store fact, not a trophy we awarded.

Editors’ Choice badges appear on both US Apple pages. A badge is Apple’s note, not a trial outcome.

If food and stress collide on the same afternoon, skip both paywalls and use the stress eating practical guide. A pet or a journey audio will not sort a skipped lunch.

Privacy compared in plain language

Finch help pages say everything stays on the phone unless you create a Finch Account. Cloud backups can use Advanced Data Protection so staff cannot read the file. Lose the key and they cannot restore reflections. Play still lists third-party sharing of personal and financial types. Apple lists User ID and Device ID for analytics. Those forms sit beside the help text. Read both.

Fabulous’s privacy page, captured 13 September 2026, says teams and technical providers process data to run the service and that it will never transfer or sell data to third parties or business partners. It names GDPR rights, a one-month reply window, and hosting outside the EU. Account data can sit for the life of the service plus about five years. Cookies up to 13 months. Help articles describe in-app data export and a web delete path. Deleting the account does not cancel Premium. Cancel the store plan first.

Neither privacy page is a HIPAA clinic file. A journal about panic or self-harm is still sensitive. Use a phone passcode. Avoid a shared family tablet.

What the evidence does not settle

Habit research supports cues, repetition and self-monitoring as a class. It does not crown Finch or Fabulous. Store phrases such as “improve mental health” and “science-proven features” are marketing. We did not find a peer-reviewed trial of the current store builds as named interventions.

Quizzes in Finch are self-report screens, not a diagnosis. Fabulous journeys that name anxiety or depression are coaching modules, not NHS Talking Therapies. If mood is heavy or unsafe, use local urgent care, not a streak.
