This Reframe vs Sunnyside page is a two-product decision, not a ranking of drink-less apps. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Store listings, Sunnyside’s March 2026 brand-facts page, and the 2024 Vadhan paper were captured on 13 September 2026.
Read the Reframe review and the Sunnyside review for the entity records. Neither product is a detox. Neither replaces a clinician.

The Reframe vs Sunnyside decision rule

1 of 5

1 of 5
Pick Reframe if you want a long education path, a forum, and room to quit as well as cut back. Pick Sunnyside if you want a weekly drink plan, text tracking, and copy that will not push abstinence. That is the whole fork. A third app does not belong on this page. If the real job is stress without alcohol, use best stress apps instead.
Reframe vs Sunnyside price and ownership cost
Reframe’s public IAP list is messy on purpose. Access, Silver, Premium, and generic yearly rows sit together. The US Access pair we use is $13.99 a month or $79.99 a year. The UK Access pair we use is £11.99 a month or £67.99 a year. Other rows run to $119.99 or £119.99. Coaching add-ons appear in editorials. We do not invent a 2026 coaching menu.
Sunnyside’s Apple list is two cells: $99.99 or $299.00 in the US, £88.99 or £299.00 in the UK. Brand facts dated 19 March 2026 said $99 and $298. A 15-day trial is the Sunnyside path. Reframe advertises 7 days. Cancel 24 hours before renewal on both, the store text said.
If both cheap US years hold, 12 months is $79.99 versus $99.99. Twenty-four months is $159.98 versus $199.98. Thirty-six months is $239.97 versus $299.97. Sunnyside Premium at $299.00 a year is a different product: more coaching, on the company’s telling. Do not compare it to Reframe Access as if they were the same invoice.
Tax is extra. Country storefronts differ. Reframe’s listing even says in-app prices are USD and may change outside the United States. That is why the UK Access year is £67.99, not a converted $79.99.
Programme design: course versus weekly plan
Reframe’s listings sell a 160-day, neuroscience-framed education programme, a drink log, games, meditations, live meetings, and a private community. Thrive Coaching is the paid upsell for 1:1 and live calls. The tone allows quitting. Play still uses “sobriety” language in places. That will grate if you only wanted a lighter Friday.
Sunnyside’s listings sell a three-minute survey, a recommended week, in-app or SMS tracking, daily notes, anonymous coaches, and a community prompt. The tone says you do not have to go sober. That will grate if you already know moderation is not safe for you.
A Sunnyside “drink” is not one UK unit. NHS pages still count units from millilitres and ABV. Fourteen units a week, spread over three or more days, is the low-risk guide, not a safe level. Convert before you celebrate a green week.
If food rises when drinks fall, use the stress-eating practical guide. Minutes of walking still sit in the UK and US physical activity guidelines and in exercise for mental wellbeing. Those pages are not a third drink-less app.
Platforms, ratings and sentiment
Reframe lists iPhone, Android, and Apple Watch. Sunnyside lists iPhone and Android. The US Sunnyside Apple page said iPhone only. Reframe asked for iOS 16.4. Sunnyside asked for 15.1. That matters if you kept an older phone.
Reframe has the larger public pile: about 44,000 US Apple ratings and 5,850 Play reviews on our capture. Sunnyside has 2,300 US Apple ratings and 327 Play reviews. UK Apple flips the comfort story: Reframe 4.6 from 4,800 versus Sunnyside 3.9 from 14. Fourteen ratings is a whisper. Do not call it a national verdict.
User notes differ in kind. Reframe threads we read praised tasks and forums and complained about billing, crashes, and a quiz that assumed regret. Sunnyside threads praised planning and, in the UK, complained about missing SMS and a plan that once told someone to drink more. Company replies called that an error. Read your plan. Do not outsource judgement.
Privacy compared
Reframe’s UK Apple label said identifiers may be used to track you. Device ID was listed for third-party advertising. Play said no data is shared with third parties and that personal info, photos, and two other types may be collected. Encrypted in transit. Deletion request offered.
Sunnyside’s Apple label listed contact info, user content, identifiers, usage data, sensitive info, and diagnostics as linked to you. Email and phone sat under advertising. Play said no third-party sharing, collection of personal info and app activity plus two other types, encryption in transit, and a deletion request.
Sunnyside’s SMS path needs a number. Reframe’s community path needs posts you may not want on a shared phone. Neither label is “Data Not Collected.” Open the live forms before you type a drink history.
Evidence compared
Sunnyside can point to Vadhan et al., 2024, in Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research (PMID 39177720). The evaluable set was 46,411 members who enrolled and tracked at least once. Models described drinks per week over 12 weeks. The headline was an overall 33% reduction. Limitations are built in: self-selection, self-report, no random control, and missing weeks as people left. A commentary in the same journal flagged the drop-off. Company pages add other percentages we do not treat as findings.
Reframe can point to a 91% “difference in three months” line on Play and similar website lines that Healthline repeated in 2023. We found no named independent trial of Reframe. Other apps, such as Drink Less, have factorial trials. Those papers do not travel to this icon.
This Reframe vs Sunnyside comparison does not pick a winner on science. One product has a cautious observational paper. The other has a louder store statistic. Neither proves recovery.
Who should pick which
Choose Reframe after you finish the 7-day trial if you like daily lessons and you may want to stop, not only trim. Set a cancel reminder on day six. Choose Sunnyside after the 15-day trial if a weekly cap and a text will change Friday, and a clinician has not told you to abstain.
Choose neither if you have withdrawal risk. Do not stop heavy daily drinking on an app’s say-so. Choose neither if you only needed a walk and a unit diary on paper. Do not buy both “just in case.” The workflows fight.
