This Sleep Cycle vs AutoSleep page is a two-product decision, not a ranking of the category. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Facts come from US and UK App Store pages, Google Play for Sleep Cycle, both privacy disclosures, and named reviews captured on 13 September 2026.

Sleep Cycle is a phone-first alarm and sound log that also talks to a Watch. AutoSleep is a Watch-first, on-device log you buy once. They share the word “sleep.” They do not share a business model.

Sleep Cycle vs AutoSleep: the decision rule

Download AutoSleep: Watch Sleep Tracker on the App Store

Pick Sleep Cycle if you want a smart alarm that can run from a phone on the table, you use Android, or you care about snore and cough clips. Pick AutoSleep if you already wear an Apple Watch to bed, you want sleep math that the developer says never leaves the phone, and you refuse another subscription. If you need both a Watch log and a phone alarm, you can run them together. You do not need a third brand in this query.

How each app tracks a night

Sleep Cycle’s listing describes patented sound analysis or an accelerometer mode. You place the phone on the nightstand. A Watch is optional. The smart alarm aims at a lighter phase inside a wake window. Apple’s Editors’ Choice text repeats that microphone story.

AutoSleep’s listing describes heuristics on Watch motion and heart rate. Wear the Watch and sleep. Or take the Watch off and let the app infer time in bed when you next touch the phone. Stages can come from Apple’s Sleep app as an optional mode. That is Apple’s estimate, shown in AutoSleep’s rings.

Neither method is polysomnography. A fan, a partner, or a dog can fool a mic. A still evening on the sofa can fool a Watch. Edit nights when the graph is wrong.

Platforms and who can use each

Sleep Cycle is the cross-platform pick. iPhone, iPad, Watch, and Android all appear on official listings. Wear OS is named on Play. That is the only way an Android household enters this pair.

AutoSleep is Apple-only. If your partner is on Pixel and you are on Watch, you cannot share one receipt. Family Sharing can spread AutoSleep across Apple IDs. Sleep Cycle Premium follows Apple or Google billing, not a shared Watch file.

For the rest of the desk, start at best sleep apps. The canonical entity pages are the Sleep Cycle review and the AutoSleep review.

Price over 12 and 36 months

AutoSleep is simple. One US receipt at $8.99, or one UK receipt at £8.99, covers the years we can see. AutoSnore is a later, separate choice. We omit its price because it is not this query.

Sleep Cycle is not simple. The US IAP list we fetched mixed $2.99, $9.99, $19.99, $29.99, $39.99, and $57.99 rows. Help copy (updated 1 June 2026) says you buy inside the app or on the website and does not print a global year. A UK user on 21 February 2025 named £35 a year. That is sentiment, not an official cell.

Do the sum on the SKU you are offered. If it is $39.99 a year, three years cost $119.97 before tax. AutoSleep is still $8.99. If you might quit after a month, Sleep Cycle’s free alarm may waste less money than AutoSleep’s upfront bill — but only if the free tier still does the job you want.

Ratings kept in separate cells

Do not blend 4.7 with 4.7 and call it a tie. The US counts differ: 29,000 for Sleep Cycle, 62,000 for AutoSleep. The UK counts are 7,400 versus 5,800. Play’s 218,000 reviews sit only on Sleep Cycle’s side. Age ratings differ (9+ versus 4+) because of health topics and store rules, not because one app is safer to sleep under.

Long Sleep Cycle reviews we sampled praised the gentle alarm and disliked subscription prompts and a Sleep Aid voice that was hard to mute until version 6.26.15. AutoSleep reviews praised automatic capture. Those are comments, not a lab.

Privacy contrast

This is the sharpest non-price split. AutoSleep’s developer and Apple label say no data is collected and nothing is uploaded. Sleep math lives on the iPhone. HealthKit access is opt-in.

Sleep Cycle’s Apple label allows tracking with identifiers. Linked data for ads includes coarse location, email, name, user ID, and device ID. Play says some types may be shared with third parties. If you do not want a sleep company to know your email for marketing, AutoSleep is the narrower pipe.

iCloud backups of either phone still sit with Apple. That is not AutoSleep “collecting” data. It is your backup switch.

Evidence and what neither app can do

Sleep Cycle AB cites awards and “built on science” copy. AutoSleep cites clinic exports. We found no 2026 peer-reviewed head-to-head with sample size and epoch-by-epoch agreement. So this Sleep Cycle vs AutoSleep page has no accuracy trophy.

CDC adult pages still want 7 or more hours. Use how much sleep by age for the bands. Short nights can change hunger; that is the sleep and weight regulation page, not an app score. A stiff back after desk days is a five-minute desk mobility problem, not a stage colour.

Gasping, witnessed pauses, or sleepiness at the wheel need a clinician. Neither icon replaces a home sleep test.

Who should skip both

Skip Sleep Cycle if you refuse a mic near the bed or a recurring fee for the parts you want. Skip AutoSleep if you will not wear a Watch. Skip both if Apple’s built-in Sleep schedule already does enough and you do not want another graph.

This Sleep Cycle vs AutoSleep close: buy the instrument that matches the night you actually have. Do not buy a third logo to break a tie the evidence does not support.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper, Sleep Cycle or AutoSleep?
AutoSleep was $8.99 or £8.99 once on 13 September 2026. Sleep Cycle’s year depends on the SKU checkout shows. Over three years, a paid Sleep Cycle year usually costs more.
Can I use Sleep Cycle without an Apple Watch?
Yes. The listings say the phone on the nightstand is the main method. AutoSleep is the reverse: the Watch is the main method.
Can I use AutoSleep on Android?
We found no official Play listing. Sleep Cycle is the Android option in this pair.
Which app is better for privacy?
AutoSleep’s public label is Data Not Collected. Sleep Cycle’s label includes tracking identifiers and linked contact and location fields.
Will either app diagnose sleep apnoea?
No. Sleep Cycle can label snore and cough sounds. AutoSleep can show an apnoea-style gauge from Health data. Neither is a medical device.
