Hevy vs Strong: Which Gym Workout Tracker Is Better?

Hevy vs Strong is a notebook choice. Neither app writes the programme for you.

This Hevy vs Strong page compares two gym logs, not a programming app and not a remote coach. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Apple, Play and help-centre facts were captured on 13 September 2026.

Hevy vs Strong public facts captured 13 September 2026. Ratings stay in separate store cells. Ownership costs use the listed yearly or lifetime SKUs, not a blended score.

The Hevy vs Strong decision rule

Pick Hevy if you train on Android, want Wear OS, want a friend feed or want the lower yearly and lifetime cash price. Pick Strong if you live on iPhone and Apple Watch, want a quieter screen and will use the plate calculator and CSV export. That is the rule. A third tracker would dilute it.

Entity pages sit at the Hevy review and the Strong workout tracker review. The best strength training apps hub is the wider list.

Hevy vs Strong price and ownership cost

On 13 September 2026 the US App Store listed Hevy Pro at $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year and $74.99 lifetime, with a second monthly SKU at $3.99. The UK listing listed £2.99, £23.49, £74.99 and £3.99 monthly. Hevy’s description says you can withdraw from an initial subscription within 14 days. Billing still runs through Apple, Google or Hevy’s web checkout.

Strong’s US listing prices Strong PRO at $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year in the body copy. The IAP list also showed $19.99 for six months, $99.99 forever, a $23.99 yearly SKU, a $3.99 SKU and $79.99 forever. The UK list showed £4.99 a month, £27.49 and £29.49 a year, £17.99 for six months, £99.99 forever, £4.49 monthly, £21.99 yearly, £3.49 and £79.99 forever. Strong says US prices may vary by account and that in-app purchases cannot use Family Sharing.

On those yearly US figures, 12 months is $23.99 versus $29.99. Lifetime is $74.99 versus $99.99. Monthly paths cost more. Both auto-renew unless you cancel in time.

Free tiers and what you can log without paying

Hevy’s help table, widely published on 13 September 2026, allows 4 routines, 7 custom exercises and 3 months of advanced graph history on free. Pro lifts those caps and adds extras such as a warm-up calculator and more muscle charts. Play reviewers still discover the four-routine wall mid-block. Count your push, pull, legs, upper, lower and travel templates before you assume free is enough.

Strong’s US listing is explicit: the free version can save unlimited workouts but is limited to 3 custom routines. That fits a simple 5×5 or a three-day split. It does not fit a six-template rotation plus a hotel workout. Strong PRO unlocks unlimited routines and the rest of the paid tool set.

Neither free tier is unlimited. If long graphs are why you would pay, Hevy’s three-month free window is the tighter leash.

Features that actually differ

Hevy sells community: follow friends, copy routines, optional public profiles, widgets and a web client. HealthKit export can be turned off. Version 3.1.13 mentioned sending a finished workout to chat tools. That is a side door, not a reason to pick a log.

Strong sells speed: rest timers, supersets, drop and failure tags, 1RM and volume graphs, body measurements, Apple Health, a warm-up calculator, a plate calculator and CSV export. The US listing quotes CNBC (“I’d suggest downloading the Strong app before you return to the gym”) and The Verge. Those are press lines on a store page, not new tests from 2026.

If you already have a written plan, both apps do the same core job. Use the progressive overload guide for the method and a training log habit for the diary. The app is the notebook.

Platforms, ratings and the Android gap

Hevy requires iOS 15.1 and ships a full iPad app plus Wear OS. Strong requires iOS 15.0 and lists Apple Watch on watchOS 10. Strong is on Play (io.strongapp.strong). A 26 June 2026 Play review still wanted watch integrations beyond Apple Watch. That is the public Android gap. Hevy’s Wear OS section is much longer on its Play card.

Apple stars are a dead heat at 4.9. Strong has more US ratings (109,000 versus 92,000). Play is not. Hevy’s 4.9 from 265,000 reviews versus Strong’s 4.3 from 42,700 is the largest split on this page. That is sentiment, not a hypertrophy study.

Hevy’s store copy claims more than 10 million users. Strong’s Apple card says over 1.2 million downloads. Strong’s Play card says over 3,000,000. Those are manufacturer lines. We did not see official Play install bands on our fetches. Omit a blended “install winner.”

Privacy and Data Safety

Hevy’s Apple label, captured 13 September 2026, said purchases, contact info, contacts and usage data may be linked to you. Identifiers, sensitive info and diagnostics were listed as not linked. Play said no data is shared with third parties, named personal info and photos among collected types, and offered encryption in transit plus deletion requests.

Strong’s Apple label said health and fitness, purchases, contact info, identifiers, diagnostics and other data may be linked to you. Play said no data is shared with third parties, named personal info and health and fitness among collected types, and offered encryption in transit plus deletion requests. Strong points to strong.app/privacy. Hevy’s public privacy URL we fetched was a thin marketing shell. Open the in-app policy before you post a public lift.

Hevy’s social layer is the extra privacy choice. A private profile exists. A feed does not. If you do not want gym friends, Strong’s quieter surface is the simpler default.

Evidence and what remains unverified

We found no trial that assigns lifters to Hevy or Strong and measures strength. ACSM’s 2026 stand still starts with showing up twice a week. NHS adult pages, reviewed 22 May 2024, use the same muscle floor plus about 150 moderate minutes. A 1RM chart is an estimate from the numbers you typed.

Strong’s CNBC and Verge quotes are real press mentions reprinted on the listing. They are not 2026 lab reports. Hevy’s “best tracker” user quotes are store testimonials. Treat both as sentiment.

Who should pick which

Choose Hevy if you share a gym with friends, you wear Wear OS or you want the $74.99 lifetime cap. Choose Strong if you run Starting Strength or a three-routine week on Apple Watch and you want plates calculated without a social tab. If four or three saved routines are enough, stay free on either and spend the money on shoes or food.

Do not keep two logs. Pick one before the next beginner gym workout plan week starts. Export first if you already have a year of data.
