Hevy Review Is It the Best Gym Workout Tracker?

Empty commercial gym with squat racks and a row of dumbbells
A workout tracker stores the session. It does not load the bar for you.

This Hevy review looks at public store listings, the maker’s help pages and published write-ups. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test.

Who this Hevy review is for

Use this page if you already know you want a digital training log. You want dated prices and store facts, not a trophy ranking. Skip it if you need a human coach in the room.

Hevy suits people who write their own sessions, or copy a friend’s routine, then want last week’s numbers on the next set. It also has a social feed. Profiles can be public or private, according to the US App Store listing captured on 13 September 2026.

Skip Hevy if you refuse any social layer. Skip it if you need a clinician-designed rehab plan. An app log is not physiotherapy.

If you still want a wider shortlist, start with our best strength training apps hub, then come back to this Hevy review for the product itself.

Hevy review: dated features and platforms

Hevy Studios S.L., based in Spain, publishes the app. The US App Store page on 13 September 2026 listed version 3.1.13, noted as updated about three days earlier. Google Play said the Android build was updated on 10 September 2026.

Listed platforms include iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Wear OS and the web at hevy.com. The iOS listing says Hevy can export workouts to Apple Health if you turn that on. Wear OS text on Play mentions live sync, a tile, heart-rate display during a session, and auto-save if the watch reconnects.

Core logging, as described on both stores, covers sets, reps, weight or time, warmup, drop, failure and supersets. There is a rest timer, a calendar, muscle-group graphs, and a one-rep-max figure. The maker says there are hundreds of exercise videos. Play text also mentions “+200” form videos. Treat those as catalogue claims, not a filmed audit by us.

Hevy Trainer appears in 2026 release notes and on the maker’s Trainer announcement page. It is an algorithm that builds a programme from goals, kit, days and time. It is not a live coach. Injury flags and programme variety settings show up in mid-2026 iOS notes. That is product text, not a clinical tool.

A 13 September 2026 Play note said finished workouts can be sent to ChatGPT and Claude. That is an export path. It is not proof that those models prescribe safe loads.

Hevy price and 12-month cost

The download is free. There are no ads on the store copy we read. Hevy Pro is optional.

On the US App Store on 13 September 2026, listed Hevy Pro prices were $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, and $74.99 lifetime. A second monthly SKU at $3.99 also appeared. We did not verify which SKU a given account sees. Twelve months at the $2.99 list price would be $35.88 if you stayed monthly. The yearly SKU is $23.99. Lifetime is $74.99, which is a bit over three yearly renewals at the listed US yearly price.

On the UK App Store the same day, listed prices were £2.99 a month, £23.49 a year, and £74.99 lifetime, plus a £3.99 monthly SKU. Twelve months at £2.99 would be £35.88. Check the live store. Tax and storefronts move.

Hevy’s help article on Pro, summarised from a public search capture because the live help page challenged our fetch, still described free limits of four routines, three months of history, and seven custom exercises. Pro removes those caps and adds a warmup calculator and extra muscle-group stats. Hevy Trainer is sold as part of Pro on the maker’s announcement page, with no extra Pro price listed there.

If you only run one split, the free cap may be enough. If you rotate many templates, or you want full graphs, Pro is the gate. That is a product design choice, not a quality score from this Hevy review.

Store ratings are not one number

Keep Apple and Google apart in any Hevy review. On 13 September 2026 the US App Store showed 4.9 stars from 92,000 ratings, age rating 9+. The UK App Store showed 4.9 stars from 28,000 ratings. Google Play showed 4.9 stars from about 265,000 reviews, with a Teen content rating. A nearby Play block on the same page also said 263,000 reviews. We report both. We do not average them.

Play’s fetched page did not show a clear public install band in the text we received. The maker’s site on the same day claimed “16+ million athletes” and “590,000+ ratings” across stores. Those are marketing totals. They are not the same as a Play install band.

Public reviews we opened were warm on logging speed and the social feed. A Play review dated 5 August 2025 said the free save limit (four workouts and seven custom exercises) felt like a paywall. That matches the help-centre caps. It is one user’s note, not a survey.

Geek Culture named Hevy its February 2026 app of the month. Hotel Gyms published a 2026 Hevy write-up that praised the interface and community. Neither paper ran a load-cell test of the 1RM tool.

Privacy and Data Safety

Apple’s privacy label on the US listing, captured 13 September 2026, says data linked to you may include purchases, contact info, contacts and usage data. Data not linked to you may include identifiers, sensitive info and diagnostics. Apple notes the label is developer-provided.

Google Play Data Safety on the same day said no data is shared with third parties, data may include personal info, photos and videos and four other types, data is encrypted in transit, and you can request deletion. The linked policy sat on iubenda (policy 75379905). Our fetch of that page was blocked, so we do not quote unseen clauses.

If you keep a public profile, other athletes can see lifts you post. That is a social choice, not a hidden sensor. Turn the profile private if you do not want a feed.

What independent sources measured

We did not find a PubMed or Cochrane paper that validates Hevy’s 1RM estimates, muscle graphs or Trainer progressions. Hotel Gyms and Geek Culture described usability and features. They did not publish error rates.

NHS advice for adults aged 19 to 64 still asks for muscle-strengthening work on at least two days a week, if you can. CDC adult pages use the same floor. Hevy can hold those sessions. It cannot prove you hit a health target.

Compare that with a bare logger such as Strong Workout Tracker, or a programme library such as Boostcamp. Those are different jobs. Our progressive overload guide explains the training idea Hevy’s last-set recall is meant to support.

What remains unverified

This Hevy review did not complete an in-app purchase flow, so we cannot confirm which monthly SKU a new US or UK account sees first. We did not audit Hevy Trainer against a published periodisation model. We did not open every privacy-label purpose toggle. If a figure is missing from the table, it is because the public page did not show it.
