This Strava review is for people deciding whether a social training log is worth a yearly fee. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Prices, ratings, and privacy notes come from public pages captured on 13 September 2026, plus named reviews.
Strava records runs, rides, and dozens of other sports, then drops them in a feed. Friends tap kudos. Segments turn a hill into a leaderboard. That social layer is the product. It is also the privacy cost.
Who this Strava review is for
Choose Strava if you already have training partners online and want one feed for run, ride, and walk files. It suits club runners who like segments and monthly challenges. It also suits people who upload from a Garmin, Apple Watch, or similar device rather than carrying a phone.
Skip it if you want a week-by-week race syllabus. That job now sits with Runna, which Strava agreed to acquire in April 2025 while saying the apps would stay separate. Skip it if a public map of your regular loop feels unsafe. A followers-only setting helps. It does not erase the fact that you uploaded a GPS trace.
Beginners who only want a voice in their ear may be happier with Nike Run Club. People comparing the whole category should start at best running apps.

Dated features and store facts
The UK App Store listing on 13 September 2026 described recording “50+” sports, a Routes tool built from de-identified data, Beacon live sharing, device sync, challenges, and Athlete Intelligence insights. It listed a free tier and a paid tier. Size was 440.2 MB. Age rating was 13+.
Google Play’s US listing the same day said “over 40 other sport types,” plus strength imports that can show sets, reps, and a muscle map. It advertised Live Segments, a training log, group challenges, Recover Athletics exercises, custom goals, and partner deals as subscriber extras. The listing was last updated 9 September 2026.
We did not recapture a live US App Store rating. A public Apple-metadata snapshot dated 2 September 2026 listed 4.8 from 371,759 US ratings and version 479.0. Treat that as a secondary capture, not our storefront fetch.

Pricing and twelve-month cost
This Strava review treats bills as store-specific. Pay on the same platform you subscribe on. Apple, Google, and the Strava website are separate checkouts.
If you take the US annual plan at $79.99, the year costs $79.99. Twelve monthly payments at $11.99 cost $143.88. The family year at $139.99 covers up to four people on the 1 July 2025 pricing page. That is cheaper per seat only if those seats stay active.
If you take the UK annual IAP at £54.99, the year costs £54.99. Twelve monthly payments at £8.99 cost £107.88. The UK Family SKU we saw was £99.99 a year. The UK Strava + Runna SKU was £119.99 a year. The US bundle on the web pricing page was $149.99 a year and was described in secondary explainers as not a single iOS checkout. Confirm that on your phone before you assume one tap buys both.
Strava’s help centre said price changes get at least 30 days’ notice. Local tax can change without that same notice. Refunds after 14 days were described as generally unavailable on Strava-billed purchases. Store refunds follow Apple or Google rules.
What published reviews actually said
TechRadar’s Lauren Scott, writing on 31 January 2024, called Strava easy to use and strong for outdoor athletes who want analysis plus a social graph. She also said price rises had pushed maps and monthly progress tools behind the paywall. She quoted the same $11.99 / £8.99 monthly and $79.99 / £54.99 yearly pair we still see on official pages.
PCMag’s Jill Duffy, last updated 20 February 2018, already flagged location sharing as the core trade. That review is old. The privacy tension is not. Lifehacker’s later running-app essay still treated mapping and the social feed as the reason people stay, and privacy settings as homework you must do.
Google Play reviews we sampled on 13 September 2026 complained about crashes after updates, GPS traces that looked short, and a free tier that feels thinner than it used to. Those are user comments, not a hands-on Strava review from this desk. They match the paywall theme in the paid press.
Strava is not a strength-programming app. The Play copy now talks about importing lifts. That is a log, not a progressive overload plan. If gym work is the main goal, look elsewhere.
Privacy and map hygiene
Strava’s privacy policy says precise location is required for GPS tracking, routes, and segments. You can revoke it in system settings. The app then loses those features. Connected watches can send heart rate, sleep, or VO2-style fields. The policy says health data from those links is not sold for advertising.
Apple’s privacy label on regional listings listed purchases and identifiers as data that may be used to track you across other companies’ apps. Data linked to you included health and fitness, location, contact info, contacts, user content, search history, identifiers, usage, diagnostics, and “other.”
Play Data Safety on the US page said some app-info, performance, and device-ID data may be shared with third parties. It also said data is encrypted in transit and that you can request deletion.
A later Strava review of your own settings should include followers-only activities, hidden start and end points, and a tight Beacon list. Do those before the first run from your door. A training log can live in a private note if the map feels like too much.
What remains unverified
This Strava review did not measure GPS error against a surveyed loop. We did not time battery drain. We did not confirm how Athlete Intelligence is trained or how often it is wrong.
Manufacturer lines about “180 million active people” on the Play page are marketing. We do not treat them as an audited census. We also omitted a Play install band because the US listing we fetched did not show one.
The Strava + Runna bundle’s storefront rules differ by platform. If that bundle is why you would pay, read the checkout screen, not a blog table.
Who should skip Strava
Skip the subscription if you only need a distance diary. The free recorder may be enough. Skip the whole app if you will not spend ten minutes on privacy controls.
If you want adidas-style walk-to-run plans, compare adidas Running before you add a second bill. If you want ASICS’ older tracker, see the ASICS Runkeeper review.
This Strava review lands here: good fit when the feed is the habit. Poor fit when you wanted a coach and bought a social network by mistake.
