Women's Health Data-backed list
Best Natural Cycles Alternatives for Fertility Awareness and Cycle Tracking
This page is for people who already know Natural Cycles and want Natural Cycles alternatives that do not use that red/green subscription. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Listings were captured on 13 September 2026.
Who these Natural Cycles alternatives are for
Stay if the yearly Natural Cycles bill feels steep, if you do not want a wearable bundle, or if you want LH numbers instead of a colour. Stay if you will still use condoms or another agreed method when pregnancy would be a problem.
Leave if you needed the FDA contraceptive label itself. A cheaper chart is not a substitute clearance. The wider field sits in best fertility apps.
How the shortlist differs from Natural Cycles
Natural Cycles sells a daily fertility status as contraception or as a planning mode. An Oura partnership page captured 13 September 2026 listed $149.99 a year or $21.99 a month in the US. UK pounds were not on the manufacturer FAQ we used for the sibling review. Typical-use failure in FDA-era and Pearson 2021 cohorts is about six to seven pregnancies per 100 woman-years. That dossier is why people compare everything else to it.
The five Natural Cycles alternatives below either drop the contraceptive claim, swap temperature for urine hormones, or leave interpretation to you. That can be the point. It is also the risk.

Daysy: a thermometer you buy once
Daysy measures oral basal temperature and shows a light. DaysyDay is free. See the full Daysy review for the 2021 paper and the retracted 2018 Pearl Index. It is an alternative when you want hardware without $149.99 a year. It is a poor swap if you needed Natural Cycles’ contraceptive label.
Fertility Friend: a chart you can keep

1 of 5
Download Fertility Friend FF Tracker on the App Store
Fertility Friend is a 25-year-old charting app from Tamtris Web Services. The US listing, captured 13 September 2026, says the free tier includes ovulation detection, Apple Health and Oura import, and a 30-day VIP trial with no card. VIP adds extra graphs, a pregnancy monitor and a private forum. Membership pages say VIP does not auto-renew.
US Apple showed 4.8 stars from 7,400 ratings, age 18+. IAP rows were $10.99 for 30 days, $21.99 for 90 days, $45.99 for a year and $23.99 as a special year. A UK Apple search capture listed £9.99, £19.99, £49.99 and £22.99. Confirm the paywall on your storefront.
The listing is blunt: educational estimates only, “must not be used to avoid pregnancy.” That is why it sits here as a Natural Cycles alternative for learning, not as a second digital contraceptive. Full notes sit in our Fertility Friend review.
Premom: a camera for LH strips

Download Premom-Ovulation Tracker, PCOS on the App Store
Premom, from Easy@Home / Easy Healthcare, reads ovulation-test photos and can chart BBT. US Apple on 13 September 2026 showed a free download, 4.8 stars from 60,000 ratings, age 13+, version 1.104.1 dated 7 August. The listing says the app should not be used as birth control. Play copy we opened earlier said the same.
Premium IAP rows on that US page included $9.99, $20.49, $23.49, $26.99, $28.49, $35.99 and $37.99. Terms were not printed beside each row. We omit a 12-month figure rather than guess which SKU is a year.
In May 2023 the FTC announced a proposed order against Easy Healthcare. The complaint said Premom shared health data through SDKs after promising not to. The package included civil penalties and a bar on sharing health data for advertising. That history is the privacy caveat, even if later policies changed. Read the live policy. Details sit in our Premom review.
Mira: numbers instead of a colour
Mira is a fluorescent urine analyser. The Max Kit was $219 with 20 wands on 13 September 2026. Refills were $89 per 20 Max wands. The shop says the system is not a diagnostic or contraceptive device. Pick Mira when you want LH, E3G and PdG curves and you will fund wands. Full commercial fields sit in the Mira fertility review.
Inito: four hormones, lower kit price
Inito’s US buy page the same day listed $119 for the InSight reader and 15 strips, then $49 per 15-strip refill. The 2023 company note said the device is Class I exempt, not FDA-cleared. Pick Inito when the first-year strip bill matters more than Mira’s analyser. See Inito review and the head-to-head Mira vs Inito page.
What none of these alternatives replace
NHS fertility-awareness pages say you need a trained practitioner if you want that method as contraception, and that apps and monitors are not officially recommended. Typical-use fertility awareness without perfect teaching sits far below perfect-use figures. None of these products block infections.
If you are leaving Natural Cycles because red days felt endless, ask whether your cycles, fever, shift work or a new medication are the real issue. An app swap will not fix that. A GP or sexual-health clinic will.
