This Headspace review is for people who already know the orange icon and need the current paywall, privacy label and evidence gaps. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Store listings and named papers were captured on 13 September 2026.
Who this Headspace review is for

1 of 5
Download Headspace: Sleep & Meditation on the App Store · Get Headspace: Sleep & Meditation on Google Play
Pick Headspace if you want one structured beginner path. The US listing, captured 13 September 2026, names more than 500 guided sessions, sleepcasts, breathwork, mindful movement, and an AI companion called Ebb.
Skip the meditation year if a free library already works. Compare Insight Timer. Skip Headspace if you want Sleep Stories as the main job. Compare Calm. If you want theory plus practice, compare Waking Up. The category page is best meditation apps.
This Headspace review does not treat Ebb, coaching, or “affordable therapy” copy as a booked clinician. If you need care, use a licensed path. If evenings of snacking are the real loop, see stress eating practical guide.
What the public listing actually includes
The US App Store listing (id 493145008) is a free download with in-app purchases. It requires iOS 15.6 or later. Apple Watch is listed; the compatibility block named watchOS 26. Version 8.31.1 appeared about three days before 13 September 2026. Age rating is 13+ and mentions health or wellness topics. Size was 420.9 MB.
Google Play (com.getsomeheadspace.android) showed a 9 September 2026 update and an Everyone rating. The Play body repeats $12.99 a month and $69.99 a year for US customers. It also markets licensed therapists, coaches, and Ebb. A footnote says online therapy may run through your organisation.
Listing copy says Headspace is “proven to increase happiness and reduce stress in just 10 days” and that “just 2 weeks of Headspace reduces anxiety”. Those are manufacturer lines. This Headspace review does not adopt them as findings.
Headspace price, subscription and 12-month cost
On 13 September 2026 the US listing body printed $12.99 a month and $69.99 a year. IAP also listed Headspace Plus at $94.99 and extra $12.99 rows. A public checkout page the same day showed $69.99 a year after 14 days free, then auto-renew. Headspace’s own help article says final prices vary by region and tax.
The UK listing body printed £9.99 a month and £49.99 a year. UK IAP also showed Headspace Plus at £74.99 and a £11.49 monthly row. Those extra rows look like legacy or Plus paths. Screenshot the GB sheet.
Coaching and therapy “pricing varies by subscription” on the US listing. We did not copy a live therapy tariff. Do not assume the $69.99 year includes a therapist.
A 12-month US meditation cost is $69.99 on the yearly listing price. Monthly billing at $12.99 is $155.88. A UK year is £49.99. Monthly billing at £9.99 is £119.88. Plus, if that is the SKU you are shown, is $94.99 or £74.99 on the IAP tables we copied. We will not invent what Plus unlocks beyond the name on the sheet.

Ratings and what reviewers actually said
This Headspace review keeps those store cells apart. US and UK Apple both show 4.8. Play’s 4.3 is the Android story. Do not blend them.
Apple’s Editors’ Choice note likes the Watch “panic button”. That is Apple copy. Play notes from 2024–2026 mention slow loads, a busy “Sesame Street” feel for experienced sitters, and playback that cuts after two minutes. Headspace replied on some threads and asked people to email [email protected]. Those are store comments.
UK user notes also say the free shelf is thin once a trial ends. That matches the lock you should expect on a subscription app.
Headspace privacy and Data Safety
Apple’s US privacy label, captured 13 September 2026, listed data linked to you for the developer’s advertising or marketing. That block included purchase history, coarse location, email, user ID, device ID, product interaction and advertising data. Health and fitness, location, contact info, user content, search history, identifiers, usage and diagnostics also appeared as linked types. We did not see a separate “Data Used to Track You” heading on the capture. The longer policy is headspace.com/privacy-policy.
Google Play Data Safety the same day said the app may share location, personal info and three other types. It may collect location, personal info and three other types. Data is encrypted in transit. You can request deletion.
Ebb and therapy chats are extra data. If you would not type it into a marketing form, do not type it into an AI companion.
What independent tests actually measured
O’Daffer and colleagues (JMIR Mental Health, 2022) found 14 Headspace RCTs published in English. Thirteen of 14 used non-clinical samples. Headspace improved depression in 75% of studies that evaluated it. Mindfulness, wellbeing, stress and anxiety improved in at least 40% of studies that measured each. Many trials were underpowered for small or medium effects. Seven of 14 reported a Headspace conflict, often free premium access. Two involved Headspace staff in design or analysis. Only five were preregistered.
Gál, Ștefan and Cristea (2021) pooled 34 mindfulness-app trials (N = 7,566). Headspace was a common app in that literature, but the pooled g values are class-level. They are not a promise for your next 10 days.
The NHS mindfulness page, reviewed 17 August 2026, says mindfulness can help and can also make some people feel worse. NICE’s nod is for mindfulness-based therapies in less severe depression, not for sleepcasts. This Headspace review will not promise a cure.
How Headspace sits next to other libraries
On that split, this Headspace review is the structured-beginner row. Calm is the sleep-story catalogue. Insight Timer is the free shelf. Waking Up is the theory course. Adaptive plans live in Balance.
The UK year is cheaper than the US dollar year on the listing bodies we copied. That is a country price, not a quality gap. Pay yearly only if you will open a sit most weeks. Cancel in the same store you used. Uninstalling does not stop the bill.
