This Othership review asks whether a music-led breathwork membership is worth the yearly fee. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. We used the US and UK App Store pages, Google Play, and Othership’s app marketing page, captured on 13 September 2026.

Othership sells guided sessions set to music. The listing names UP, DOWN, ALL AROUND, BODY, and BRAIN libraries, plus 500-plus on-demand classes. The same brand also runs sauna and cold-plunge studios. This page is about the app. It is not a studio review and not a medical clearance for ice baths.

This Othership review is for adults who want a class, not a silent timer. It suits people who like a voice, a soundtrack, and a daily UP or DOWN pick. It also suits people who will use a rotating free set before they pay.

Skip it if you want a cheap haptic-only drill. That is closer to the Breathwrk review. Skip it if you need a drink-less programme. That is the Reframe review or the Sunnyside review. Skip it if a $130 year will crowd out walks that already meet the UK and US physical activity guidelines.

The wider list is best stress apps. Othership is one row on that page, not a trophy.

Dated features and store facts

The US listing on 13 September 2026 described sessions from about 60 seconds to 60 minutes. It named box breath, diaphragmatic breathing, Wim Hof Method, ocean breath, alternate nostril, 4-7-8, Buteyko, coherent breathing, and more. It also named sound healing, hypnosis, somatic work, walking sessions, and dance. Those are content labels. They are not proof that each method was tested in this app.

Membership copy promised 500-plus sessions, weekly releases, streaks, challenges, Apple Health mindful minutes, and a community. The website added session counts by mood: 130 UP, 114 DOWN, 86 ALL AROUND, and 6 BRAIN items on the page we fetched. Treat those counts as marketing, and expect them to move.

Seller was Breathwork Plus Inc. Play listed Othership Inc in Toronto. Age 4+ on Apple. Play: Everyone. The US Apple page said “Only for iPhone.”

Othership price and membership

The number most US store pages quote is $129.99 a year or $17.99 a month. The website’s $10.83-a-month line is the same yearly idea divided by 12. It is not a third official monthly SKU unless checkout says so.

UK checkout on our fetch showed £114.99 a year or £15.99 a month. A Canadian Apple listing showed $22.99 and $164.99. Say the country out loud before you compare a blog to your paywall.

Twelve US months on the monthly SKU: $215.88. The year: $129.99. Twenty-four months at the yearly SKU: $259.98. Thirty-six months: $389.97. UK yearly path: £114.99, £229.98, £344.97. We omit tax.

Developer replies on Apple and Play said they gift memberships when people write about money as a barrier. That is a company policy, not a published charity programme with a form we could quote. Email [email protected] if you need that path. Do not treat a 2021 “536 free memberships” line as a current census.

What editors and users reported

US Apple reviews we could date praised daily use, sleep wind-downs, and instructor variety. A July 2025 review called it a tool for workday energy and evening calm. An October 2025 review said support was slow after a phone swap, then later said a representative fixed access. UK notes included crashes outside sessions and a wish for personal session notes.

Play reviews mixed love of the free tracks with “too expensive” and an older 2022 report of a charge that did not unlock content. The developer replied on those threads. Replies are not a lab result.

The website still talks about sauna heat and ice-bath ranges. Those numbers describe a physical studio. They do not apply to headphones on a sofa. Do not treat an app session as cold-plunge clearance. See a clinician before ice or heat if you have heart disease, pregnancy, or another condition that changes risk.

Privacy and Data Safety

Apple’s label on 13 September 2026 said contact info, identifiers, usage data, and diagnostics may be linked to you. Email, name, and device ID were listed under advertising or marketing. Usage and diagnostics also appeared as data not linked to you. Read the live label; Apple’s grouping can look messy in a scrape.

Play Data Safety said the app may share location with third parties. It may collect personal info, app activity, and app info and performance. Data is encrypted in transit. You can request deletion.

Location sharing is the Play line that should make you pause if you keep precise location on. We did not audit the full othership.us terms page. Use the in-app policy.

Evidence and what remains unverified

Othership’s site says sessions are “evidence based” and “proven with science.” We found no named randomised trial of the Othership app. Category science on slow breathing and relaxation exists. It does not travel automatically to this catalogue.

Wim Hof-style and “up-regulated” breathing can feel intense. The listing itself calls some of that work elevating. If you get dizzy, stop and sit. This Othership review does not tell you to push through light-headedness. A walk is still a safer first dose for many people. If evenings become extra food, use the stress-eating practical guide rather than another 40-minute class.

We did not sit a session for this page. Sound quality, crash rate, and whether the five free tracks rotate weekly stay unverified except as store copy and user notes.

Who should skip Othership

Skip the year if you only wanted a silent box-breath. Skip it if $18 a month will be a second unused meditation invoice. Skip studio heat and ice unless a clinician has cleared those.
