Choose Plant Nanny if a sad cartoon leaf will make you refill a bottle. It suits people who already like collecting digital pets and who will tap a glass after they drink.

Skip it if ads will annoy you. The free garden shows them. Skip it if you want every plant without a bill. Public reviews say many species now sit on SPARKFUL. Skip it if you need a dense graph first. WaterMinder is the chart-led log. Waterllama is the Apple-only character set.

Dated feature snapshot

The US App Store page captured 13 September 2026 describes a water reminder that grows plants in three difficulty levels. It lists monthly intake charts, easy log edits, mini-challenges, greenhouse creatures, and a widget. It syncs hydration data with Apple Health.

SPARKFUL, per that page, adds exclusive plants, “gentle nudges,” an advanced water log, and an ad-free mode. SPARKFUL’s own article says the free set includes 14 plants and that a subscription unlocks more than 54, plus a monthly exclusive. That is manufacturer copy. We did not count plants in the live build.

A SPARKFUL blog post says plants no longer “die.” They wilt, then perk up when you log water. Older App Store reviews describe the same change from Plant Nanny 1. The current listing is “Plant Nanny Cute Water Tracker,” package com.fourdesire.plantnanny2 on Play.

Needs iOS 15 or later, watchOS 9 or later. Play’s age rating is Everyone. Apple’s is 13+ with advertising and health topics.

Pricing and the 12-month bill

Plant Nanny is free to download. SPARKFUL is the subscription. Clovers and plant packs are separate IAPs. You can spend on both.

The US year at $69.99 beats $7.99 × 12 = $95.88 if you will still play in month 12. The $3.99 month, if that is the SKU you are offered, is $47.88 and cheaper than the year. The public list does not explain why two monthly prices sit side by side. Regional pricing is normal. SPARKFUL’s 2024 help article raised some country prices, including GBP monthly from £6.99 to £7.99 and GBP annual from £60.99 to £69.99. The UK store we fetched on 13 September 2026 still showed £69.99 for the year and a £7.99 month, plus cheaper monthly SKUs.

Cancel in Apple or Google settings. A Play review said reminders behaved differently after a trial was cancelled. That is one user’s report. We did not reproduce it.

Store ratings, kept apart

US App Store: 4.7 from 106,000 ratings. UK App Store: 4.7 from 10,000. Play’s two modules disagreed on the same day. Keep the cells apart.

A 17 April 2022 App Store review said you can earn an in-app reward for a five-star rating. That can tilt the score. The same review said the free features were enough. A 13 October 2023 UK review said a later update moved plants behind the paywall. Those are dated public comments, not a survey we ran.

Play comments in 2025–2026 praise animations and notifications. Others report dead reminders, or ads that push Premium. One August 2026 review said ads only play when you double a reward. Sentiment is mixed. Stars are not accuracy.

Privacy and Data Safety

The SPARKFUL privacy policy is dated 1 December 2022. It says the company may send targeted ads that exclude personal health, medical, and fitness data. It names Google Analytics, Flurry, HasOffers, and ad networks. It stores game logs on AWS. It lists servers in the United States, Japan, and Singapore, and “other countries.”

On health data, the policy says the only field it needs for the drink goal is the weight you type. You can type a false weight. The policy says APIs and SDKs will not collect other health data without consent. Apple Health sync is still a second copy if you turn it on.

Play Data Safety on 13 September 2026 says some app info and performance may be shared, and that personal info, messages, and device IDs may be collected. It also says data is encrypted in transit and that you can request deletion. That deletion path is more explicit than WaterMinder’s Play card.

GDPR rights (access, erasure, portability) are listed in the policy. We did not test the Garden Assistant inbox.

What independent sources actually measured

We did not find a peer-reviewed Plant Nanny trial. Gamification research exists as a class. It does not prove this greenhouse raises intake by a set number of millilitres.

NHS fluid pages still describe 6–8 cups and pale-yellow urine. They do not name SPARKFUL. The “2.4×” line on the store page has no methods, no sample, and no journal. Treat it as marketing.

What remains unverified

The live free-plant count after the next update. Whether the widget still exists on every Android skin. Exact Play IAP prices beyond what the Apple sheets showed. Whether the five-star reward still ships. Install counts.

Also unverified: any claim that the garden treats kidney stones, skin, or weight. Those appear in old user reviews. They are not evidence.
