This Fitbod review asks what the public record says about its algorithm, price, and privacy. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Store ratings and checkout figures were captured on 13 September 2026.
Who this Fitbod review is for
Choose Fitbod if you want the app to write tomorrow’s session from the kit you actually have. Store copy, captured 13 September 2026, still sells equipment filters, recovery-aware picks, video demos, and Apple Health, Strava, Fitbit, and watch integrations. Play’s US listing also names Wear OS.
Skip it if you already run a named programme and only need a log. Hevy or Strong are cheaper for that. Skip it if you want a human voice in your ear. That is closer to Ladder. Skip it if you refuse auto-renew after a 7-day trial. Fitbod’s help text describes a trial that becomes a paid plan unless you cancel.
The wider shortlist sits on best strength training apps.

What Fitbod’s “AI” is, without the brochure
Fitbod, Inc. in San Francisco publishes the app. The listing calls the planner AI and machine learning. In practice the product is a rules-based generator: you set a goal, a duration, and available kit, then you log the sets. Later sessions change exercises, suggested load, and volume. That is personalisation from your history. It is not a chat coach that debates your knee.
Apple’s US page still claims 1,000+ exercises with multi-angle video. You can swap a movement. You can exclude kit you do not own. Play reviews in our capture said those swaps sometimes stay inside the same family (more push-up variants when you wanted none). That is user sentiment, not a controlled test.
Version 8.33.0 was listed about four days before the 13 September 2026 Apple capture. Play’s “What’s new” on 8 September 2026 was a generic bug-fix note. Age rating is 9+ on Apple and Everyone on Play.
Dated price, platforms, and store scores
The website checkout is the cleanest US public pair: $15.99 a month or $95.99 a year (shown as $8.00 a month billed annually). Fitbod’s subscribe help, which we could not fully load through a bot check, is widely quoted as saying prices vary by region, promotion, and store. Apple US IAP on 13 September 2026 included Monthly Plan $12.99 and $15.99, and yearly Elite at $79.99 and $95.99, plus older “legacy” SKUs. Apple GB IAP included monthly £11.49 and £14.99, and yearly £70.99 and £99.99. Your invoice is the one on the phone, not this table.
Twelve-month US cost at the website pair is $191.88 if you pay $15.99 each month, or $95.99 if you pay the year. We are not converting those dollars into sterling.

Privacy and Health data, in plain language
Fitbod’s privacy policy, last updated 18 April 2024, says the company collects profile and workout data you type, plus payment metadata through processors. If you allow it, Fitbod may read HealthKit items such as date of birth, heart rate, height, sex, weight, and workouts, and may write workouts and Active Energy back. Android Health Connect may supply energy, temperature, body-fat, exercise, height, lean mass, and weight. The policy says HealthKit is not used for marketing.
The same policy describes cookies, pixels, Google Analytics, and advertising or targeting technologies. Apple’s nutrition label on 13 September 2026 said usage data may be used to track you across other companies’ apps and sites. It also listed health and fitness among data linked to you. Play’s Data safety box said the app may share some types (the visible line named financial info among them) and may collect personal info, financial info, and four other types. Transit encryption and a deletion request were ticked. Those are developer statements.
If you do not want health databases filled, decline HealthKit and Health Connect. The planner will have less to learn from. That is a privacy choice, not a moral grade.
What independent write-ups actually said
Garage Gym Reviews’ 2026 “best workout apps” list gave Fitbod the Best AI Workout App label. The site’s Fitbod product page showed a 3.8 GGR score, praised equipment-aware sessions and tracking, and listed two cons: no free version, and reports of Android glitches. A tester note in the same roundup said an Olympian did not find the programming useful for Olympic lifting. That is a sport-specificity limit, not a general fail.
Apple’s Editors’ Choice blurb calls Fitbod a data-based lifting log. Long-running US reviews like the history and the swaps. A 2023 UK review in the GB sample said the exercise variety became noise and that suggested loads stayed off after months. Play reviews in 2025–2026 still argued about price near $8–$100 a year. Sentiment is mixed on the algorithm’s speed of learning. It is not a PubMed outcome.
What remains unverified
We did not run Fitbod for a mesocycle. We did not count the live exercise library. We did not confirm which US customers see $12.99 versus $15.99. We did not audit the ad SDKs. We found no randomised trial of Fitbod versus a paper log or versus Boostcamp.
Progressive overload is still load, reps, and recovery. Our progressive overload guide applies if you cancel and keep a notebook. Fitbod can suggest the next step. It cannot feel your tendon.
