This Komoot review is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. It pulls dated public listings, Komoot’s own pages, and published reporting so you can judge the planner before you pay.
People open a Komoot review when they want a planner, not another social feed. The app sits in hiking, cycling, and running. It is not a gym log. Pair it with a written plan such as our progressive overload guide if you also lift. Do not expect the map to coach form.
Who this Komoot review is for
Komoot suits walkers and riders who like to draw a line before they leave. The public store copy, captured 13 September 2026, stresses sport-specific routing, surface notes, elevation, voice prompts, and offline maps. Apple Watch and Wear OS get a glance view. Garmin, Wahoo, Sigma, and Bosch links appear on the Play listing.
Skip it if you only want a crowd-rated loop near a car park. That job is closer to an AllTrails review use case. Skip it too if you need official UK Explorer tiles as your main layer. That is a stronger match for an Outdooractive review reader. US public-land layers sit more naturally in a Gaia GPS review.
Beginners can start on the free region. They should still carry a paper map on remote days. A phone dies. A planner is not a rescue service.

Features the public listings actually name
Komoot GmbH, based in Schönefeld, Germany, publishes the iOS, Android, and web apps. The Play page updated on 10 September 2026. The US App Store showed version 2026.37.2 about one day before our 13 September 2026 capture.
Named tools include a route planner, community Highlights, GPS recording, photos, and a Pioneer/Expert reputation loop. Offline maps and turn-by-turn voice sit in the paid story. The Premium page, fetched 13 September 2026, lists multi-day planning, Collections, live location sharing, weather along the route, sport-specific maps, worldwide offline maps, 3D maps, and a Komoot map on compatible Garmin units.
The same Premium page does not publish a lab accuracy figure. Voice delay complaints appear in Play reviews we sampled. That is sentiment, not a measured error rate.
Komoot price, regions, and a 12-month bill
The download is free. Store copy still says the first region is free forever.
BikeRadar reported on 10 March 2025 that accounts which unlocked maps before the end of February 2025 can still send routes to devices without a new Premium sub. Newer accounts need Premium. Komoot’s quoted statement names Profile Connect and Live Sync.
UK Apple items on 13 September 2026 included Premium at £4.99, an annual trial SKU at £59.99, World Pack at £29.99, family-plan trial SKUs at £6.99 and £8.99, and World Pack offers at £19.99. US items listed $4.99, $59.99, $29.99, and matching family SKUs.
If the annual Premium list holds, 12 months costs £59.99 or $59.99. Monthly list costs more over a year. We did not verify a web-only euro monthly price, so we omit it. A World Pack is still listed as one-time. New-user device sync still hinges on Premium. Check the live paywall for your account date.

Komoot ratings stay in their own stores
Apple UK and Apple US both showed 4.7 on 13 September 2026. Pools differ: 25,000 UK ratings and 9,500 US ratings. Play showed 4.4, hundreds of thousands of reviews, and a 10M+ install band. Do not average them. Age labels are 4+ and Everyone. That is not a wilderness safety rating.

Komoot privacy in plain language
A route app needs location. Play Data Safety on 13 September 2026 says Komoot may collect location and personal info and may share some types, including health and fitness. Transit is encrypted. You can request deletion. Apple’s US label names identifiers, health, purchases, location, contacts, user content, usage, and diagnostics. Some items may be used to track you across other companies’ apps.
Komoot’s privacy page fetched that day describes GDPR-style processing and names Zendesk in the United States for support under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We did not audit servers. Live location is a Premium talking point, not a rescue plan.
What published reviews measured — and what they did not
BikeRadar’s 10 March 2025 piece measured a policy change, not GPS error. It recorded the same Premium pair that still appeared on Apple on 13 September 2026. Store reviews show mood: cyclists praise the planner; some Android users cite back gestures and late voice cues. That is not a validation study.
We found no PubMed-style trial that reports Komoot distance error against a surveyed course. If you need that, it remains unverified. Use a training log for load, not the map’s last metre.
Who should skip Komoot
Skip it if you refuse any subscription and you are a new user who must sync a bike computer. Skip it if official OS or USGS tiles are the whole point. Skip it if you want a huge review corpus of waterfall photos more than a planner.
Keep it if you already own a legacy region pack and BikeRadar’s grandfathering still matches your account. Keep it if you plan multi-day rides or hut-to-hut walks and like a desktop-to-phone sync.
Walking still counts toward NHS and CDC minute targets. The app does not diagnose fitness. If you are new to hills, a beginner gym workout plan can build legs before long days. For a wider shortlist, see best hiking apps.
