The Runna vs Nike Run Club decision rule
Pick Runna if you will pay for a calendar that names easy days, speed days and a long run, then sends those sessions to a watch. Pick Nike Run Club if you want a free start, like Coach-led audio, and live in a country where plans and Guided Runs are unlocked. If money is tight, start with Nike. You can still move later.

What you pay — and what stays free
Runna’s pricing page on 13 September 2026 showed $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year. That yearly rate is $9.99 a month if you divide by 12. A 7-day trial is on the page. The UK App Store listed £15.99 and £99.99. Cancel on the same store that billed you.
Nike Run Club’s US App Store and Play cards described tracking, Guided Runs, challenges and shoe mileage with no paid upgrade line. Third-party 2026 write-ups also call the app free. We still say “check the live store,” because digital products change.
Twelve months of yearly Runna is $119.99 or £99.99 before tax. Thirty-six months is about $360 or £300 at those rates. Nike’s cash cost is zero on the listings we saw. Your cost there is a Nike account and location data.

Plans, audio and country locks
Runna’s UK store card lists plans from 5K to ultra, plus couch-to-5K, strength, recovery and some triathlon work. It also lists a return-to-running plan in the events rail. The developer is Strava, Inc. Version 8.54.0 was “6 days ago” on that capture.
Nike’s US store card lists NRC Training Plans and a library of Guided Runs, including guest athletes. A footnote says plans are available in the US, UK, JP, CN, BR, FR, DE, ES and IT. Guided Runs are “available in select countries.” If you live outside that list, the free app may be a tracker with fewer lessons. Play’s 4 August 2026 note said you can re-run a Guided Run from the activity tab. That is a library feature, not a new race plan. The same Nike card lists a 4-week Get Started plan and a 12-week marathon plan among the free options, still only in the named countries.
That country lock is the quiet half of Runna vs Nike Run Club. A London user and a user in an unnamed country are not offered the same Nike product. Runna’s store card claims 180-country reach in Strava’s 2025 bundle note. Language is still mostly English on that press page.
Ratings split by store
Nike Run Club’s iOS score is strong: 4.8 from 418K US ratings. Its Play score is 4.2 from 1.11 million reviews. That gap is large. Recent Play posts (13 April and 9 August 2026) described missed Health Connect sync and distance that ran ahead of the runner. Those are individual phones.
Runna’s iOS scores are high on smaller counts. Play is 4.6 on tens of thousands of reviews. A high average on a coaching app often means “the plan was clear.” It does not mean GPS was perfect.
Do not pick a winner by subtracting 4.9 from 4.8. The jobs differ. The sample sizes differ.

Privacy in plain language
Nike’s Play Data Safety form said no data is shared with third parties. It also said the app may collect location, personal info and ten other types. Transit is encrypted. You can request deletion. That is a developer form, not an audit.
Runna’s UK privacy label listed identifiers that may be used to track you. The app uses Apple Health data for heart rate, distance and pace on Apple Watch, per the store card. A paid coach app still stores your race date and schedule. That is sensitive even when it is not a medical record.
What nobody has proven
This Runna vs Nike Run Club page found no peer-reviewed trial that either plan set improves race times in a general adult sample. Nike’s Guided Runs are coaching audio. Runna’s plans are structured weeks. Both can still be useful diaries. Usefulness is not a p-value. Nike also sells shoe mileage reminders on the same free card. Runna sells brand perks on its paid page. Neither reminder is a wear lab. If a Guided Run distance cue runs ahead of you, as one 9 August 2026 Play post described, slow down and watch the road, not the voice.
If you add gym work, keep the extra load small. Our beginner gym workout plan and progressive overload guide are the calmer path. Write what you did in a training log. An app streak is not a reason to jump volume.
NHS adult pages still describe about 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, plus muscle work on two days, if you can. Neither app is a licence to ignore pain.
