Stoic Review Journaling, Reflection and Mindfulness Explained

This Stoic app review is for people who will write in the morning and again at night. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. Figures come from public pages captured on 13 September 2026.

Stoic is a journaling app from Stoic app inc. Prompts, mood, breathing, and a habit list sit around the page. Premium and Premium + AI are optional. The app is not a clinician and does not replace therapy.

Choose Stoic if you want a morning plan and an evening page on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple’s Editors’ Choice note called out bookend reflection and stoic-flavoured prompts. Free journaling exists. That matters if you are not ready to pay.

Dated features and store facts

This Stoic app review starts from the US listing: morning preparation, evening reflection, guided journals, voice notes, photos, meditation, breathing, therapy-session templates, CBT-style thought dumps, Stoic Shield, Health integration, iCloud sync, Siri, and export. Size was 319.8 MB. Location may run in the background, per the Apple card.

Play’s US page (updated 4 September 2026) repeated the journal pitch and named AI mentors. It also said Trends was “under development” on Android. The US Apple listing claimed “over 4,000,000 people.” That is marketing, not a verified install band.

Pricing and twelve-month cost

A Stoic app review cannot flatten the plans. The help page splits monthly and yearly, then Premium versus Premium + AI. The US IAP list we fetched still showed $6.99 and $39.99 premium lines, and $12.99 and $99.99 AI lines. Lifetime Premium sat at $299.

If you are billed $39.99 a year, the year costs $39.99. If you are billed $6.99 a month and stay 12 months, the year costs $83.88 before tax. An AI year at $99.99 undercuts twelve $12.99 months ($155.88). UK IAP used pounds at the same face numbers. If £39.99 is the year you see, that is the UK year cost.

The July 2026 notes said lifetime buyers should watch for an old subscription that still renews. Check Apple subscriptions if you buy the one-time SKU. Cancel in the store that billed you. Stoic’s help says refunds go through Apple, not the developer.

What published pages and reviews actually said

Apple’s Editors’ Choice blurb praised prompts and breathing. A 2023 Apple review called the tool set large and asked for a faster blank page. That matches a product with many tabs.

US Play reviews we sampled were fewer and sharper. One user could not save an entry and could only open the web app with Apple ID. A 2023 review said privacy lock sat behind Premium. Help-centre copy we fetched still lists Face ID and passcode as Premium points. Confirm what the free build locks today.

Privacy and the AI path

Stoic’s policy says it has no access to Apple or Google account data and cannot see diary text. Usage analytics can run. You can object in settings, per that page.

Section 8 is the fork. If you buy AI and consent, journal content and onboarding notes may go to OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini. Stoic says it does not store full texts on its servers, stores limited vector context, and does not use your content to train those models. You can disable history-based AI. Third-party policies still apply.

Play’s US Data Safety form on 13 September 2026 was messy: sharing of personal and health data, “no data collected,” not encrypted, and not deletable. Do not ignore that label because the policy sounds calmer. Open the form on your device.

HealthKit and optional location are consent features. Leave them off if you only wanted a notebook.

What remains unverified

This Stoic app review did not write a month of entries. We did not audit AI token caps described in the 2026.15 notes. We did not verify the “4 million” store line.

CBT-style templates are a product feature. They are not NHS Talking Therapies and not on NICE’s HTG676 digitally enabled therapy list as a named product in the pages we read. “Science-backed” breathing copy is also unverified here.

This Stoic app review says skip Premium + AI if you will not send pages to a model. Skip lifetime until a trial month still feels like your own notebook. Skip Android-first use if you need the Mac app and a tidy Data Safety form.
