MapMyRun Review Tracking, Coaching and Premium Explained

This MapMyRun review is for runners who want route maps and may pay for MVP plans. This is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test.

Who this MapMyRun review is for

Use the free app if you want a map of where you ran and a simple history. The store copy still sells a large route library and 600+ activity types. That claim is marketing. We did not count the routes.

Pay for MVP only if you want live location sharing, the plan library or extra splits. Skip MVP if you already pay Runna for a week-by-week coach. Skip the app if your real need is a public social graph. That is Strava.

Free audio plans still sit in Nike Run Club. A brand-led alternative is adidas Running. Compare the wider field in our best running apps hub.

What changed after the Outside deal

On 30 August 2024, Outside Interactive said it had acquired MapMyFitness from Under Armour. The press note named MapMyRun, MapMyRide and MapMyWalk. It also pointed to Gaia GPS and Trailforks in the same family. Deal terms were not disclosed.

The US App Store developer is now Outside Television Inc. The Play developer line we captured still showed MapMyFitness, Inc., with Outside Interactive Inc. in the contact block. Version 26.11.1 was listed as “3d ago” on 13 September 2026. Notes mentioned bug fixes and a rebrand to Outside.

That ownership change matters for privacy and for billing. Old Under Armour receipts may not match today’s cancel path. Use the store that charged you.

Tracking, plans and the MVP paywall

Free use, on the manufacturer MVP page, includes GPS logging, custom maps, device sync and basic stats. The same page puts live tracking, heart-rate analysis, cadence analysis, race plans and data export on the paid side. We did not click every toggle in the live app.

Store copy also mentions form-coaching tips for Garmin users. That is a software hint, not a filmed gait lab. Interval tools and audio splits sit behind MVP on that marketing table.

Garage Gym Reviews, in a 2026 write-up, cited a 14-day trial and $5.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Those numbers do not match every current App Store SKU. Prefer the checkout you see.

Dated specs, prices and store ratings

This MapMyRun review keeps US and UK money in separate rows. Several MVP products can appear on one store page. That usually means old offers and new offers sit together.

Privacy after the brand move

The UK App Store privacy link we captured pointed to Outside’s policy, not an old Under Armour page. Play still declared third-party sharing of location and personal info. That mix is normal for a social fitness map. It is still a lot of movement data.

Live tracking is a safety feature on the MVP table. It is also a live coordinate. Share it with a short list. Do not treat a public activity feed as private.

Age labels disagree across stores (13+ in the US extract, 4+ in the UK extract). If a child will use the phone, check the live rating and family settings. This desk does not review children’s products.

What independent sources measured

We did not run a measured loop with MapMyRun. We also did not find a 2026 journal trial of the current build. Older hobby GPS write-ups compared exports with Garmin files. Those posts are not a sample you can trust for error bars.

Store stars are high on both iOS and Android. High stars do not prove distance. Trees, tunnels and a weak GPS lock still distort phone tracks. Indoor treadmill mode is a different sensor problem.

What remains unverified

A later MapMyRun review will still face the same SKU fog. This MapMyRun review cannot name one official MVP price. The store lists many SKUs. The manufacturer MVP page we fetched did not print a number. Country pages differ.

We did not verify that adaptive plans change race times. We did not verify form-coaching tips against a camera. We did not verify the “100M+ runners” line on the store card.

Cancel paths depend on Apple, Google or a web bill. MapMyFitness help still publishes a Google Play cancel note. Keep the receipt.
