This AllTrails vs Komoot page is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. It puts dated store prices, ratings, and privacy labels in one table so you can pick a trail browser or a route planner.

Pick AllTrails if you want a catalogue of more than 500,000 trails with community reviews and filters. Pick Komoot if you want to build a line for a bike, hike, or run and, as a new user, you will pay Premium to push that line to a computer. That is the whole decision. Do not add a third app to dodge it.

AllTrails vs Komoot: two jobs, not one trophy
AllTrails, Inc. is a San Francisco listing on Play. The US App Store showed version 26.9.20 about three days before 13 September 2026. Editors’ Choice still appears on Apple. Store copy sells discovery, reviews, photos, and navigation on the phone or Wear OS. Plus adds offline maps, wrong-turn alerts, live share, 3D, and weather-style layers. Peak adds scratch-built routes and heatmaps.
Komoot GmbH is a German listing. The US App Store showed version 2026.37.2 about one day before our capture. Store copy sells a planner, Highlights, voice nav, and a free first region. Premium adds multi-day tools, Collections, live location, weather along the route, sport maps, and worldwide offline maps, per Komoot’s Premium page fetched the same day.
Those are different products. A ranked lake loop is not a gravel tour you drew on a desktop.

Price cells stay in their stores
AllTrails vs Komoot price talk fails when people mix web promos with Apple stickers. On 13 September 2026 the US and UK Apple lists for AllTrails Plus were $35.99 and £35.99. Peak was $79.99 and £79.99. SlashGear has described those US Plus and Peak figures as annual auto-renew plans. AllTrails terms say web purchases can use a 30-day refund path. Apple and Google renewals follow store rules, which the same terms say are often final.
Komoot’s Apple lists the same day showed monthly Premium at $4.99 / £4.99 and annual SKUs at $59.99 / £59.99. A World Pack one-time SKU sat at $29.99 / £29.99. BikeRadar’s March 2025 piece recorded the same Premium monthly and annual pair, and warned that new accounts need Premium for device sync even if a pack is listed.
Twelve-month Plus list is lower than twelve-month Komoot Premium list. That does not make Plus “better.” It buys a different kit. Peak list is higher than Komoot Premium list. Monthly Komoot is a poor deal if you stay a year.
Ratings are not a blended score
AllTrails vs Komoot ratings look close until you read the pools. AllTrails Apple US is 4.9 from one million ratings. That is a mass consumer sample. Komoot Apple US is 4.7 from 9,500 ratings. Play is 4.6 versus 4.4, both with hundreds of thousands of reviews. Komoot shows a 10M+ Play install band. AllTrails did not show an install band in the extract we captured, so we omit it.
Age labels differ. AllTrails is 9+ with user-generated content and infrequent crude humour noted. Komoot is 4+. That is store policy, not trail safety.
Sampled AllTrails Play reviews from 2025–2026 focus on subscriptions: forgotten trials, cancel paths, and mileage bugs after Peak launched. Sampled Komoot Play reviews focus on navigation feel and Android gestures. Different pain.
Privacy and live tracks
Both apps need location. AllTrails Play Data Safety, captured 13 September 2026, says location and personal info may be shared and collected, transit is encrypted, and deletion is offered. The US Apple label lists email and user ID for the developer’s advertising or marketing, and precise location under analytics. AllTrails Help describes public, followers-only, and only-me visibility for activities.
Komoot Play says personal info and health and fitness may be shared, location may be collected, transit is encrypted, and deletion is offered. Apple’s label is broad: identifiers, health, purchases, location, contacts, user content, usage, diagnostics.
Live share is a paid talking point on both sides. It is still a broadcast of where you are. Use it with people you trust. Tell someone the route even if the pin is on.
Offline maps and devices
AllTrails store copy puts offline maps, printed maps, and wrong-turn alerts on Plus. Peak adds building or editing a route on top of that catalogue. If you stay on the free tier, treat the app as a browser, not a hill nav kit.
Komoot store copy still gives a free first region. Offline maps beyond that, worldwide voice nav, and new-user device sync sit on paid SKUs. If a Garmin is the point, read BikeRadar’s 2025 rule before you buy a World Pack and assume sync is included.
Neither page published a surveyed error rate. Trees, canyons, and a dying battery still win. Carry a map skill. Log training load in a training log, not only in a GPS file.
Who each app should skip
Skip AllTrails if you hate subscriptions and you need offline nav every weekend. Skip it if you need an iPad planner; the UK listing we captured did not offer one. Skip Komoot if you only want ranked photos of a popular peak and you will never draw a line.
Walkers still meet NHS and CDC minute targets with either tool. Neither replaces a beginner gym workout plan. Neither diagnoses heat illness. Strength work still needs progressive overload if you also lift.
