This AllTrails alternatives page is a source-reviewed guide, not a hands-on lab test. It is for people who already know AllTrails and want a dated shortlist of replacements, not a fake ranking of every map on earth.
People search AllTrails alternatives after a paywall, a dead signal, or a Peak upsell. They already know the catalogue. They want a different job. If you do not know AllTrails yet, start with our AllTrails review and the hub on best hiking apps.
This page does not crown a winner. It shows three live options with dated public specs. Walking minutes still sit under NHS and CDC guides. An app does not replace a progressive overload guide if you also lift.
Who these AllTrails alternatives are for
Stay if you only browse photos of popular loops and you accept ads. Leave if you need offline tiles every weekend and you refuse Plus. Leave if you want to draw a route, not only follow one. Leave if you want official Explorer or USGS sheets as the main layer. Leave if US public-land colours are the whole point.
Also leave if cancel friction bothers you. AllTrails Help says auto-renew steps differ for web, Apple, and Google. Play reviews from 2025–2026 describe forgotten trials. That is a process complaint, not a map-quality paper.

Yearly list can exceed AllTrails Plus. |

Komoot as an AllTrails alternative
Komoot is the planner in this set. Store copy captured 13 September 2026 sells sport-specific routing, Highlights, voice prompts, and a free first region. That is the opposite of AllTrails’ “search 500,000 trails” pitch. If you are leaving because Peak now owns custom routes, this is the first door.
The bill is not automatically cheaper. Annual Premium list (£59.99 / $59.99) sits above AllTrails Plus list (£35.99 / $35.99). A World Pack one-time SKU is still listed at £29.99 / $29.99. BikeRadar’s 10 March 2025 report says new accounts still need Premium to send routes to Garmin and similar devices. Do not buy a pack and assume sync.
Play showed 4.4 and 10M+ installs. Apple showed 4.7 in both UK and US stores. Sampled Android reviews praise cycling nav and dislike back gestures. Full dated tables live in our Komoot review.
Outdooractive as an AllTrails alternative
Outdooractive is the licensed-map door. Play and Apple copy name Ordnance Survey in the UK, USGS in the US, Harvey, Alpine Club, and other national topos. AllTrails sells community reviews. Outdooractive sells sheets you might already trust on paper.
Pro list on Apple was £26.99 / $29.99 a year on 13 September 2026. That can undercut Plus if official tiles are the only reason you pay. Pro+ list was £53.99 / $61.99, with a euro web pair of €29.99 / €59.99 and a one-time 7-day trial on a first web Pro or Pro+ buy.
Ratings split. US Apple 4.4 from only 448 ratings. UK Apple 3.8 from 2,700. Play 4.5. ViewRanger owners still write angry Play notes. Outdooractive’s July 2026 public reply says old maps should be free if you email support. Keep receipts. Depth sits in our Outdooractive review.
Gaia GPS as an AllTrails alternative
Gaia GPS is the layer stack. Store copy names public land, NatGeo on paid tiers, hillshade, ski and overland modes, CarPlay, and Android Auto. That is a backcountry tool, not a dog-friendly filter browser.
It is not the cheap AllTrails alternatives pick. Apple list Premium was £51.90 / $59.90 a year on 13 September 2026. Outside+ was £89.90 / $89.90. That can exceed Peak in the UK Outside+ cell. You pay for maps and, on the bundle, Outside media. Media is not navigation.
iOS ratings are high. Play is 3.4. If Android is your only phone, this alternative is a risk, not a rescue. Outside’s 3 October 2025 policy is explicit about precise location. Full cells sit in our Gaia GPS review.
What AllTrails still does that rivals do not copy
AllTrails remains the mass catalogue. Apple US 4.9 from 1 million ratings is an adoption signal, not a lab medal. Filters for dogs, kids, and wheels are the store pitch. Plus still sells offline maps and wrong-turn alerts at a lower annual list than Komoot Premium or Gaia Premium on the day we captured.
If your only complaint is the Peak upsell, try Plus before you migrate. If your complaint is cancel UX, switch the store you used and follow AllTrails Help. If your complaint is “I want OS Explorer,” Plus will not grow that layer. Change app.
Privacy when you switch
Export or screenshot routes you care about before you delete an account. AllTrails Help lets you set activities to only-me. Komoot, Outdooractive, and Gaia all collect location because that is the product. Outdooractive’s Apple label mentions tracking identifiers. Gaia’s parent policy names advertising and analytics tools. Komoot’s Play label mentions health-and-fitness sharing.
Do not start a public track at your house on the new app either. Live share is a feature, not a duty.
How to choose without a trophy
Write the job in one line. “Draw Saturday’s gravel loop and send it to a Garmin” is Komoot, with Premium if your account is new. “Walk UK rights of way on an Explorer sheet” is Outdooractive Pro. “Stay on US public land without cell service on iPhone” is Gaia Premium. “Keep reading recent trail photos” is stay on AllTrails.
Then check the live paywall. Figures here are 13 September 2026 captures. Sales move. Strength work still needs a plan. An app does not replace it.
